“Too much,” I whispered, shaking my head helplessly as my chest heaved. “It’s too much, Cupid. I fear losing you now.”
He stared at me, almost stunned, surprised, perhaps, by the raw admission. I swallowed hard, turning away to settle on the edge of the bed. My heart still raced. It was the truth, terrifying in its intensity.
He had never once said he loved me. He’d never confessed deeper feelings or spoken of a future.
In everything we shared, the only thing Cupid had ever clearly stated was that he wanted us to be official, and that could mean so many things. None of them opened the door to certainty about whether he truly loved me.
The silence between us hung heavy, pressing down until he finally crossed the room. He sat gently beside me, close but not touching. His eyes searched mine, but I couldn’t hold the contact for long.
I lowered my gaze.
He reached out, thumb brushing my chin with just enough pressure to lift my face back to his.
“Let’s hold on tight to this,” he said quietly.
I went still, unsure what he meant.
“Cupid…”
He took my hand, caressing it tenderly, soothing me as if preparing me for something important.
“Let’s hold on to this, to what we share. This bond between us. Let’s not lose it.”
I searched his eyes, heart blooming with every word.
“I can’t,” I murmured helplessly. “I can’t afford to lose it. Whatever this is, Cupid… it’s different from anything I ever felt for Ares. I’m sorry I said his name. I know you hate it.”
He waited, tension easing from his features. Softly, he said,

“Snow?” I looked up, heart pounding. “There might come a time… when I want this to end.”
Cold chills raced down my spine.
“Cupid!”
“There will,” he continued calmly. “I’m sure of it. Maybe to protect you… or to make you happier. When that day comes… hold on tight. Remind me how much you mean to me. How much I love having you by my side, with me. You understand?”
His words were soft, tender, almost unthreatening, but beneath every syllable lay a warning. As if he’d foreseen something vast and dangerous approaching, and he wanted me prepared.
I searched his eyes, trying to stay strong against the thought of him pushing me away, but tears welled up instead, silent, painful trails down my cheeks.
“I’m not going to lose you, Cupid,” I told him then, voice firm like a vow, like a promise. I leaned in and hugged him fiercely. “I am never going to lose you.”
His palm settled on my back, rubbing slow, comforting circles. He handled me with such care.
When I finally pulled back, sniffing, I felt a new strength coursing through me.
He dabbed the tears from my cheeks with his thumb and offered one of those rare, radiant smiles.
“It’s weird to say,” he murmured, “but you look beautiful even when crying.”
“Stop…” I pushed him lightly, and his smile widened. He drew me in for a gentle kiss.
I clung to him tighter. After a while, I eased back, only for my eyes to land on the bag Sera had packed.
“Oh, I forgot,” I said quickly. “Cupid, my sister–in–law packed lunch and snacks for us. Goodness. I should microwave them up. Have you eaten anything today?”
He shook his head, as if only just remembering.
“You either.”
“Yeah.” I stood quickly and retrieved the dishes. I padded to the small kitchen in the apartment to prepare the food. As I worked, I felt Cupid appear behind me, leaning in the doorway.
“You said your sister–in–law packed food for us? For me too?”

I turned, seeing genuine surprise on his face, and nodded.
“Yes.” I added softly, “Why? You don’t want it?”
He frowned and shook his head slowly.

“I… I never eat food prepared by others,” he admitted at last. “And I didn’t expect your sister- in–law would even think to include me.”
I nodded, understanding.
“Sera is… well, I told you she’s like a mother figure. She thinks of everything. I… I won’t take it badly if you refuse. I just…”
“I’m eating,” he cut in quietly, then frowned again before asking, “Seraphine Castle is the judge’s fiancée, right?”
I nodded.
“That’s my
brother Roc, the eldest.”
Cupid leaned against the doorframe, expression turning thoughtful as he watched me.
“There was a year, long ago, when my father visited the Castle Pack as Alpha to discuss alliances. The Alpha had only one daughter, my age. That must have been your sister–in–law, right?”
“Right. Father–in–law doesn’t have any other children besides Sera.”
He fell silent for a long moment, gaze drifting over me.
“How old are you?”
“I… I will be twenty two this December.”
“You’re twenty–one now,” he said slowly, “which means… my younger sister, not Almira, Yasmin is your age.”
I swallowed as everything clicked.
“We have quite an age gap…”
“It’s just a number,” I cut in quietly.
He went silent again, but his eyes told me it still bothered him.

“Don’t look at me like that, Cupid.”
“Like how?”

“Like I’m your younger sister or something. You’re not my brother. You’re the man I love romantically. And don’t start feeling too old, because my brothers are all older than you.”
“I don’t think so.”
“It’s the truth. Roc, the eldest Frost, is thirty–eight this year. Eshan and Kashi are twins, thirty- five. My biological brothers Nero, the first, is forty but he ages slowly because he’s a werewolf and Dante, the second, is thirty–five. So they’re all older than you. Completely.”
He didn’t respond immediately. He simply watched me. I knew what was running through his mind, so I closed the distance, standing before him and searching his gaze.
“We’ve made love many times,” I said softly. “You wouldn’t do that with any of your sisters, would you?”
In response, I rose on tiptoe and kissed him.
“I’m not your sister. I’m your woman and… age is just a number. Roc is eight years older than Sera. Eshan and Pinky seven years apart. Pinky Pie is twenty–eight; Eshan is thirty–five.”
“How about the newscaster?”
“She’s also twenty–eight. Mirey,” I replied with a sigh. “So it’s normal. Ten years between us will be overlooked when we go official. Relax… daddy.”
The last word slipped out. A blatant, teasing mistake.
In an instant, I found myself pinned against the wall. Thrusts followed, deep and claiming, my moans filling the air as pleasure overtook everything else.
