Arriving at my club, I alighted after double–parking and left the security guard to handle the

rest.

I made my way into the club, the music blaring loudly, but somehow I wasn’t feeling it tonight. I headed straight to the elevator and pressed the button.

“Boss?” I heard someone calling from the crowd, but I ignored it. I didn’t need any greetings tonight. I was too furious.

I stepped into the elevator once the doors opened, and it ascended smoothly.

When it arrived, I walked out, passing the lined–up security guards, and pushed open the door to the bedroom.

On the table sat a stash of money waiting for me. I slowed at the sight. Then, gradually, I made my way over to it, picking up one of the hard rolls of notes and swallowing hard.

I had worked my ass off for the Godlike family, all the time putting my life right on the line… but in the end… my father, Alpha Ruis… he… he had kept a secret as massive as one that put Marlik’s life and freedom in danger from me.

I lowered my gaze, dropping the roll of notes back down, and marched toward the counter to grab a bottle. I settled onto my couch, about to uncork it, when the sound of footsteps approached.

It didn’t take long before the door flew open. The two exclusive whores reserved for me swayed in, wearing practically nothing. They made their way over and settled one on each side of me, their palms resting on my chest.

“Boss, your face has been scarce these days,” one said, her lips seeking a kiss, but I turned away quietly.

The other’s palm slid down toward my trousers. I rose abruptly from between them, sighing heavily.

“Privacy,” I murmured, looking at them.

They sat there in surprise, confused at first, before swallowing and rising. They made their way toward the exit, but one, the sharp–tongued one paused to look back.

“Is this because of that lady who’s been coming? Is that why you’ve been ignoring us?” she

asked.

I didn’t bother to respond.

I turned away, setting my jaw, and flopped onto the bed. They left the bedroom, leaving me alone with myself. Silence enveloped me, but even then, I couldn’t think more clearly.

If the Moon Tower took Marlik, I wouldn’t get him back for months, perhaps years. I had to stop it somehow. I had to.

I was lost in thought when the sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway. I caught the scent and knew exactly who it was. Still, I looked away, ignoring him.

The door opened, and Desmond walked in. I didn’t bother glancing his way. I merely stared into blank space until a file landed beside me. I frowned in confusion, turning to stare at the file and then up at his face.

He had lipstick smeared on the side of his lips, and I knew exactly what he’d been doing.

“It contains Marlik’s file from the Moon Tower,” he said tiredly, raking his fingers crazily through his hair before flopping down beside me.

I watched him breathe for a few silent seconds before he turned to me, and our eyes met.

“You went to Nari’s place?”

“She’s the only one who can get us information from the Moon Tower besides her father and her father only answers to my uncle,” he replied. “She gave me the printout from the original, and I paid her back with a kiss.”

I took the file after his explanation and stared at the front page. It was a drug allegation case. I flipped open the first page to read the documented information.

“On the day Marlik was released, Eshan went to the Moon Tower to submit Marlik’s official statement so he’d be declared free as a werewolf too,” Desmond explained.

“Then he’s free.”

“Only that a confession statement was forged,” he replied. I turned the next page and froze. “Marlik will be charged over the last warehouse we didn’t hijack that night, Cupid. Feroz is twisting the story. The statement claims the warehouse belongs to Marlik. Feroz is looking for someone to pin the allegation on.”

“But he can’t do that to Marlik. He didn’t give any confession,” I replied thoughtfully.

“Which confuses me. Why would the Moon Tower prepare to arrest a man based on a confession he didn’t make?“.

Silence fell after Desmond’s question until the truth suddenly slammed into me, and I went literally still.

“Maybe Feroz will make sure Marlik confesses to the crime before the Moon Tower carries out action?”

Desmond slowly turned to me, and it clicked for him too. Hurriedly, I rushed to pull out my cellphone only for a call from Ramin, the butler, to come in.

I answered at once.

“Jahan?” Marlik’s voice came through, making me go cold. Had something happened already?

“Yes?”

“Are you the one parked outside?” he asked. I got up at once, rushing to my computer to pull up the CCTV footage of Marlik’s house. Desmond right behind me.

“No. How many cars?” I asked just as the live feed loaded.

“Just one.”

As Marlik spoke, the car door opened, and three men alighted. I went still.

“You know them, Marlik?”

Silence fell from his side for a while before a low growl rumbled through.

“They’re Feroz’s men.”

Hearing this, I went literally still but it felt like a jackpot. They had just walked straight into the jaws of death. Perfect.

“Let them in, Marlik. Don’t disagree with anything they say. Smooth–talk everything. Make it seem like you’re on their side and begging. They’ll definitely ask you to sign a paper. Hold on. I’m on my way.”

I moved away from the computer and headed out, waiting for Marlik to respond, but he took his time. At last, he murmured,
