Snowflakes
Under the gradual dark sky, Rocco’s car pulled into the Frost home with a low, gravelly crunch that felt louder than it should have. My eyes landed on the garage before my mind could catch up.
Father’s car.
Sleek, black, unmistakable.
I swear in my entire life I never imagined a day when knowing he was home would make my heart skip not with warmth, not with safety, but with uncertainty. With dread. With the sick twist of not knowing what version of him waited inside.
I didn’t know what to expect anymore.
Roc alighted without a word, rounding the car to open the door for Sera. She stepped out slowly, still pale, still quiet from everything that had happened.
Dove was already out, waiting for me, but I couldn’t move. My gaze stayed glued to that car like it might explode if I looked away.
“Snow?”
Dove’s voice pulled me back. She’d opened my door, hand extended.
I exhaled long, heavy and forced my legs to work. I stepped out, the cold biting through my jacket, and let her guide me toward the house.
The front door swung open.
Kashi stood in the doorway, silhouetted against the warm light inside. His eyes found Sera first, soft, searching.
“You okay?” he asked quietly.
She nodded once, small and tired.
He gave her a faint, pained smile and stepped aside, holding the door wider for Roc and Sera to pass.
“Hello,” Dove said softly as she slipped past him.
Kashi nodded, but his attention shifted slowly, inevitably to me.
I stopped breathing.
I’d come and gone from this house more times than I could count, but I hadn’t really seen him, not truly since Father declared I was no longer welcome.
Kashi. The one who never hid his love. Never veiled it. Never made me guess.

His eyes searched mine now deep, unguarded, heavy with everything we hadn’t said.
My heart grew impossibly heavier.
I lowered my gaze and walked toward him. Bypassing him should have been easy. It wasn’t.
I stopped right in front of him.
No words.
I just stepped into his arms.
He caught me like he’d been waiting his whole life for that moment.
His arms wrapped around me fierce, almost too tight and he buried his face in my hair.
“My God,” he whispered, voice shaking with raw truth, “I miss you!
The words cracked something open inside me.

We stayed like that longer than we should have until he finally pulled back just enough to kiss my cheek, soft and lingering.
Then he tugged me gently inside.
Eshan was in the living room, just ending a call with Pinky Pie. He turned at the sound of our footsteps.
His eyes landed on me hard. Blank. Cold.
“I thought you understood the part where the case was closed,” he said flatly. “Why are you digging again?”
I sighed, tired, bone–deep tired. That was his love language. Sharp edges, blunt concern.
“I’ll stay off the case now, Eshan,” I said quietly, “Promise.”
He didn’t believe me, not entirely but he crossed the room anyway. His fingers brushed my check, light but deliberate,
“Pinky sent her regards.”
My lips curved despite everything.
“Remind her about my dresses. Can’t wait to see them.”
“Deal.”
I smiled brighter, real this time, and turned just as Mirena walked out of the kitchen.
I raised an eyebrow.
“I think I saw your team in the crowd at H.O.W.L. today.”

She shrugged. “I knew you wouldn’t give them any audience. No need for me to tag along.”
She leaned in, kissed my temple softly.
“I heard what happened. Is Marcus insane?”
Hearing his name made my stomach lurch.

I turned slowly, eyes finding Seraphine at the far window, phone pressed to her ear, shoulders hunched.
No one knew yet. No one knew she was mated to Marcus.
A bond blessed by the Moon Goddess herself, unbreakable chains, sacred, divine, merciless.
And Marcus had been leaking H.O.W.L. secrets, weakening the director, her father, probably because Mr. Castle refused to let him claim his daughter.
At the edge of my vision, Dove returned from the kitchen with a tray, snack and juice, smiling like she could will normalcy back into the room.
I answered Mirena with a small smile before asking the question that had been burning since we pulled in.
“Is… is Dad home?”
“Yes,” she said softly. “He arrived a few hours ago.”
I smiled, quiet, uncertain.
“I should go greet him.”
“I’ll be right behind you,” Dove said.
I nodded and left.
The hallway felt longer than usual.
As I approached Father’s bedroom, soft laughter drifted through the cracked door.
He was with someone. I knocked gently.
The laughter faded.
“Come in.”
I pushed the door open and froze.
Viviana sat on the edge of the bed beside him, both of them bent over an old photo album, one no one dared touch.
The one filled with pictures of Father’s wife. The one who died giving birth to Viviana.

He was smiling, soft, tender, in love with the memory and with the daughter beside him.
My throat closed.
I forced a smile anyway.
*Dad. Good evening.

He looked up, smile lingering.
“Yes. How are you?”
“Fine. Tired, in fact. You’ve been busy lately.”
He chuckled quietly.
“Working hard on the upcoming election.”
My eyes widened genuine surprise cutting through the ache.
“You’re contesting?”
“For Chairman of Justice,” he said, still smiling.
I frowned, remembering who currently held the seat.
The Luna of Godlike Pack sounds like a tough woman to overthrow, Dad.”
“You can say that again. She has the support of her husband, even though they’re separated. That man is powerful.”
I nodded. I’d only seen him through video calls with Cupid, but even across a screen, his aura had been undeniable. Quiet, immense, unshakable.
“So what’s your strategy?” I asked. “When’s the election? I didn’t even know campaigning was starting
soon.”
“It’s being kept low–key. The HOWL.. case stirred too much attention. Date’s not set yet, but soon.” He sighed, thumb brushing the edge of a photo. “I have the connections to make a stand… but so does Luna Sash. The Alpha of Godlike Pack is her strength. And his strength rests on his sons, one of them, especially. You know him, don’t you? Cupid Godlike.”
My heart slowed.
Goosebumps rose along my arms.
I’d seen his stance. Felt his aura. The power he commanded was undeniable, different from Yenda’s blooded, ancient strength. Cupid’s was something else. Sacred. Heavy. Almost holy.
*Cupid is just a model,” I said carefully. “He controls his father’s finances. I don’t see how he’s the backbone of the Godlike family.”

Father looked at me long, searching.

“Maybe he’s more,” he murmured. “That’s what Beta Sky told me last night when we met. Sky is the beta from Godlike Pack.”
The words landed like stones in still water.
Beta Sky.
Oh, that reminds me. Betas from powerful packs that left five years ago for rituals has returned home which means the Mooncrest beta also would have arrived.
