“This is more perfect. The estate was bought under your name though. Two blocks away from H.O.W.L. Fine neighborhood. There’s a vacant simple bungalow. She’ll love it.”
Desmond’s voice drifted over as Dove and I stepped back into the living room. He was showing Cupid something on his phone, images of a sleek, modern bungalow with clean lines, floor–to–ceiling windows, and a small private garden that looked like it belonged in a magazine.
I froze mid–step.
Cupid turned at the sound of our approach. His eyes lit up the second they landed on me, soft, warm, like I was the only thing in the room that mattered.
“Come check this.” He took the phone from Desmond and held it out.
I walked over slowly. The bungalow was luxurious in an understated way. Warm wood floors, open–plan living space, a kitchen that looked like it belonged to someone who actually cooked. Two bedrooms. A study. A patio overlooking a quiet green space.
I looked from the screen to Cupid.
He owned an entire estate?
This extravagant?
“You love it?” he asked, voice gentle.
I couldn’t speak at first, just stared at him, heart doing something complicated in my chest.
Then I leaned in and kissed him softly, lingering, full of everything I couldn’t say yet.
When I pulled back, he was smiling, tender, knowing.
“I’ll take that as a yes?”
“Yeah.”
He passed the phone back to Desmond without looking away from me.
“Secure it,” he said. “Send the message to the manager. Tell him a lady is coming to live in the bungalow…”
“A lady?” I echoed, brows lifting.
He paused mid–instruction. Looked at me like the correction was obvious.
“Tell him my woman is coming to live there.”
Desmond’s gaze flicked to me, then back to Cupid before he nodded once.
“On it, boss.”

He stepped away to make the call.

At that exact moment, Marlik appeared at the bottom of the stairs, freshly showered, hair damp, wearing a black t–shirt and gray sweatpants that did nothing to hide how dangerously attractive he was.
He slowed when he saw Dove.
She, confident, unflappable Dove immediately looked away, rubbing the back of her neck like she could hide the flush creeping up
her skin.
“I should take a bath,” she muttered, hurrying past him without making eye contact.
The awkwardness between them was thick enough to choke on.
Cupid felt it too. He frowned slightly.
Marlik met his gaze, held it for a second then gave a small, confirming nod. No secrets.
“We made love last night,” he said simply.
Cupid’s brows shot up.
“What were you thinking?”
Marlik shrugged, walking past us to drop onto the couch.
“Nothing.”
“Fuck. Is she on birth control?”
“How would I know?”
“Asking?” Cupid turned to me. “Your friend on birth control?”
“No,” I murmured.
Cupid’s eyes widened.
‘Tell me you used a condom. At least.”
Marlik glanced up and Cupid frown.
“What?”
“There’s no condoms in the house and it was drunk sex. It means nothing. So stop reacting”
The words landed like stones.
We all realized at the same moment that Dove was standing frozen at the foot of the stairs.
She’d heard everything.
She looked small suddenly, vulnerable in a way I’d never seen her.

“I… I wanted to ask for… Never mind.”
She turned and hurried back upstairs.
I swallowed hard.
She’d heard it.
And maybe she’d expected it. To a man like Marlik, this was just a one–night stand but perhaps a bit more to Dove who had been left at the altar twice. Jilted. Abandoned. Cursed, she called it.
I turn quietly to see Cupid was seated beside Marlik now. Quiet conversation, heads close. The sight of them together, relaxed, barefoot, brothers in every way that mattered made something soft bloom in my chest even as dread coiled tighter.
I walked over slowly.
Cupid paused when he saw me, eyes softening.
I didn’t waste time.
“How do you know it was Feroz?”
He raised a brow then frowned when he realized where my mind had gone.
“I hired a private investigator,” he said softly.
I nodded. Believed him. It was within his reach. Easy, even.
“Do you have anything else?” I asked. “Something undeniable. More than photos to use as evidence?”
His expression changed sharply.
