He left. Just like that, he walked away and vanished through the door, and suddenly I felt dizzy. I couldn’t pinpoint why.
All I knew was that his presence had altered something in me, and the fact that he had kissed me made my cheek burn like fire.
Instinctively, I pressed my palm to my cheek, trying to breathe, then let out a shaky sigh. I turned back toward the table, gathered my bag, packed the documents, and steadied myself before walking to the counter. I paused there, waiting for the same waiter who had served me.
“Yes, ma’am?” he asked.
“I’ll pay for the juice and leave,” I whispered, and his expression shifted as though I’d spoken in a language he didn’t understand.
“Boss rented the place out,” he said softly. “He paid for everything. All day and all night.”
Boss?
I swallowed at that, lowered my gaze and offered him a small, polite smile before heading out.
When I got to my car, I sat there for a moment, staring at the building glowing under the night lights. Cupid.
He told me to call him Cupid. His first name, like it was something intimate. He must be unbelievably wealthy to afford renting Sandals for an entire day and night, just for a meeting. Just to wait for me. Just to… kiss me. Again.
I swallowed hard. Did he not know I was a married woman? He must not know. And next time I see him, I should let him know. And then… and then what? Stop him?
I tore my gaze away from the restaurant, started my engine, and pulled out of the parking lot like I was trying to outrun my own thoughts.
The ride home was quiet and too smooth. When I finally pulled into Ares‘ garage, I let out a shaky breath and stepped out, grabbing my things before walking into the house, only to pause in the hallway.
The scent of dinner drifted through the air. I walked in to find Ares sitting at the dining area, actually waiting.
I stopped, looked at him, and for the first time I felt something shift, faint but undeniable. The

beginning of something I don’t think I can stop anymore. I’m losing my feelings for Ares Bani. Slowly. Gradually. And I know myself too well that soon, I won’t be able to even pretend.
“Good evening,” I said, and without waiting for his reply, I turned toward the stairs.
“I’ll wait for you here,” his voice came behind me. “It’s been a while since we had dinner together. Let’s have one tonight, honey.”
It wasn’t the invitation that stopped me, it was the tone. That soft, sweet voice he used when he wanted to tether me back to him. My patience strained.
“I’m tired, Ares,” I said simply and continued up the stairs. I walked into the bedroom and exhaled deeply.
I pulled out the documents and my cellphone, placed my bag back in its place. That was when the door opened and Ares stepped in. I ignored him and continued arranging my things.
“You know you can take a break if you’re tired,” his voice followed. “If it’s too much, stop the charity event. Stop the profiling job. None of it was supposed to be your responsibility. You’re supposed to be healing. Preparing your body for a baby.”
I rolled my eyes where he couldn’t see. The same script, the same fake concern, just another attempt to control me, cage me, keep me small so he could be my god.
I turned around with a plastered smile.
“I told you there’s no need to worry.”
“Well then let’s go have dinner and…”
“I’m sure Ana told you I went to meet Cupid for the dinner meeting,” I cut him off sharply. “He was there. He’s already signed the documents. We’ll start setting schedules. Everything is on track. You don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine.”
He hated it. I saw it all over his face. And I felt it too, his energy. He’s losing me and he knows it. And it terrifies him.
“Snow, I…”
My phone rang, cutting him off.
I walked to the bed, picked it up, and frowned. A number I didn’t save. Odd. I never give out my contact, not unless it’s family.
I answered.
Silence. Breeze whistling. Cars passing. Whoever it was, they were driving. Not speaking.

Then it hit me.
“Cupid?” I breathed.
And that voice, deep, quiet, unforgettable slid through the speaker.
“Home?”
I swallowed. He was asking if I’d gotten home safely. My cheeks warmed.
“Yes. Just now.”
“Show me,” he murmured, and I froze. That commanding confidence, like he already owned my breath, my pulse, my body.
Ares was standing right there. I could refuse. I should refuse but something inside me moved
on its own.
Like he was pulling strings connected to my spine, I turned on the video call.
His face appeared instantly, lit faintly by the car interior. His lovely bangs shadowed his eyes, those dangerous green eyes that made my breath catch.
He looked at me for a long, heart–stopping moment, and only when he seemed satisfied that I was indeed home did he disconnect, just like that, leaving my heart fluttering like I’d been thrown off a cliff.
What is this?
What’s happening to me?
I didn’t know. All I knew was that my pulse was racing, my cheeks burning.
Then I realized I had an audience. Ares was still there.
I lowered my gaze, placed my phone gently on the bed, and walked toward the bathroom.
“I’ll take my bath now,” I murmured more like escaping than announcing anything.
