“I will sue the Daylight company for airing news without proper permission,” Eshan said, voice low and dangerous as he slowed his stride in the corridor.

Kashi paused, turned smoothly on his heel, and gave a single, calm nod.

“It wasn’t Daylight News that first aired it,” he replied evenly. “But go ahead and sue them if you want.”

“Really?” Eshan’s smirk was sharp, venomous. He stepped forward, chest rising, ready to close the distance.

I moved faster.

“Eshan that’s enough. Please.”

I slipped between them, took his hand, and squeezed hard. His fingers flexed in mine, tense, trembling with barely leashed fury but he didn’t pull away.

I turned to Kashi, searching his face, trying to find the brother I knew in the stranger standing before me.

“What’s going on, Kashi?”

He didn’t answer.

Didn’t even meet my eyes.

Instead he turned quietly, deliberate and started walking away. Viviana followed, her gaze sliding to mine for one brief second. I’d swear I saw the corner of her mouth lift, just a flicker, a smirk, before she turned and matched his stride.

I couldn’t let it end like that.

I rushed forward, blocked Kashi’s path and planted myself in front of him.

“Kashi, what are you doing?” My voice cracked. “Why are you here taking her side? Why is Mirena blocking the news from airing? Why are you doing this to me?”

Desperate questions poured out raw, pleading.

He still wouldn’t look at me.

Eshan’s voice came from behind, low, accusatory.

“He won’t do it.”

Kashi finally stopped. Turned slowly. Met Eshan’s gaze with quiet, unshakable calm.

“So?” he said softly. “What if I don’t want to? Daylight News won’t participate in entertaining any of the Dark Alley case. You have your sweet gossip feeds to do the job. Why are you complaining? Without Mirena, you know you can’t get the news to all and sundry.”
