“I have already sent your details in for the DNA test,” my father began quietly. “That was when your text message came through.1 don’t know where you got the idea to run tests on Nero and Dante as well, but you said it was for fairness… and I agreed. I took their samples too. The results came back negative for them. You are my only biological child.”
My knees buckled. I gripped the arm of the couch to keep from collapsing entirely.
Slowly, I turned to my mother. She was on her knees now, head bowed, trembling. I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. What kind of cruelty could drive a woman to do something so monstrous?
She had been cheating from the very beginning? My God.
“If she had only cheated and stopped there… perhaps the pain wouldn’t cut so deep,” my father continued, his voice steady but laced with something raw and broken. “But do you have any idea what she actually did?”
I swallowed hard, throat tight.
“She made me believe you were a bastard. She ensured her sons, her real sons, those bastards were well cared for by me while she poisoned my own daughter. She worked with the priestesses to bind your wolf. She handed you over to her other son so he could damage you… and all this time, she stayed silent and painted you as the villain.”
The words slammed into me, but one phrase snagged and refused to let go.
“What… what other son?” I asked, voice cracking as I looked around the room for someone, anyone, to explain. “Can someone please tell me? What other son did she…?”
I was still asking when my gaze landed on Eshan’s face. The quiet horror in his eyes made everything click into place.
Nausea surged up my throat. My heart twisted violently, as though it might tear itself apart. Slowly, I turned back to my mother. She was shaking harder now, tears streaming unchecked.
“It was never my intention,” she whispered, the excuse sounding pathetic even to her own ears. “I was just… scared.”
“Scared?” The word tasted like ash.
“Feroz was born with Down syndrome. He grew up without a mother, and that left him… without the ability to understand right from wrong. He didn’t see what happened in that dark alley as rape. And I didn’t mean to tie your wolf. I only did what I did because I was terrified.”
It was incredulous, almost absurd, that she could even form those words.
“What happened in the dark alley… wasn’t rape?” I repeated, shuddering so violently I could barely stay seated.
She broke into fresh sobs, tears stinging her eyes.
“You have no idea how much Feroz has suffered, Snow. It wasn’t his fault. It was all Viviana’s doing. She orchestrated everything!”
Viviana didn’t bother defending herself. She sat perfectly still, expression blank, as though she knows there is no need to hide anymore.

“You all have no idea what Herold is capable of,” my mother pressed on, voice rising with desperate conviction. “Right from when we were young, he knew I never loved him. Yet he came anyway and asked for my hand in marriage.”
I swallowed again, trembling..
“He was the son of the Alpha of Mooncrest. Jibe, the son of the Alpha of the Alpha Pack stood no chance.
“The Alpha Pack was small, insignificant compared to Mooncrest. I had only one path forward. I ran away with Jibe. We had our first son. Feroz.
“Around that time, my parents found me. They kept Feroz a deep secret and forced me to marry Herold anyway.
“I became his wife, but I never loved him. I continued meeting Jibe in secret, raised Feroz in hiding, and conceived more sons for Jibe. Nero and Dante.
“Until Herold finally discovered I was seeing another man. He was furious. Terrifying. I had to cut ties with Jibe for a while. We didn’t lie together. I stayed faithful to my husband for the time being… and that was when I became pregnant with you, Snow.
“I knew the child was his, but I kept that secret buried. Herold had stolen me from the man I loved. I decided to make him suffer in
return.
“I convinced him the baby girl wasn’t his. That belief took root in his mind for nine long months. When we brought Viviana home, thinking she was our biological daughter, I was stunned by how much affection he poured into her.
“I was jealous, but I let it pass. Then you arrived at our door. The true daughter of Herold Mooncrest. I knew I had to act fast, or all my secrets would unravel.
“Viviana is just as venomous as I am. We worked together to turn everything to our advantage. She met Feroz, became addicted to his wild ways, became his… whore among other filthy things.
“The first step was to bind your wolf. We knew your wolf was an Alpha because you were the true firstborn of an Alpha.
“If you ever transformed, Herold would realize Nero could never be the rightful next ruler of Mooncrest Pack. The priestesses were paid handsomely.
“They did their job well. But the truth always finds its way out. Herold’s mother loved you so much. She caught Viviana and Feroz together, plotting the dark alley incident.
“To silence her, Viviana poisoned her. But that stubborn Mooncrest blood refused to let her die. Instead, she slipped into a coma. And that night… we… we made Feroz… do what he did.”
I didn’t sink onto the couch. I collapsed straight to the floor.
Too much cruelty concentrated in one place, all of it rooted in what people called love. All of it tangled and twisted back to that one poisoned word.
But why? Why was I, the innocent one, paying the price for my father’s sins? Feroz was my stepbrother? My grandmother, my sweet, kind grandmother, the only one who had ever accepted me with open arms had truly been poisoned?
Tears I hadn’t prepared for burned behind my eyes. I didn’t try to hold them back.
The sobs tore out of me, raw and unstoppable. Everything came crashing down at once. Every lie, every betrayal, every wound I’d carried without knowing why.

And in that moment, on the cold floor of Mooncrest Pack, surrounded by the wreckage of secrets finally laid bare, I felt the full weight of it all.
