The silence that followed was heavier than any scream. It stretched on, infinite and unyielding, telling me everything I needed to know.
The truth was finally out. They all knew now who belonged, who never had, who had lied, who had suffered.
In that endless quiet, the irony settled like ash on my tongue. Nero and Dante, who had spent years reminding me I had no place here, no right to breathe the same air as them, now turned out to be the ones who truly never belonged.
My mother, the one who had spat the words “harlot” and “dirt” at me after I was raped, who had branded me filthy stood revealed as the truly wicked, the truly rotten one.
Viviana, who had always believed the world should orbit her perfection, who had played the flawless daughter to perfection, now couldn’t meet anyone’s eyes for more than a second.
And my biological father, the same man who had once threatened to disown me, to erase me from his bloodline now clung to me with desperate urgency, eager to give me his name.
It was all too much. Suffocating. The air in the room felt thick, pressing against my lungs.
I knew I needed his love to heal. I understood his pain, his blindness, the years of manipulation that had poisoned everything he
saw.
But I couldn’t simply accept him out of nowhere, couldn’t flip a switch and call him “Father” like the past had never happened. No. I needed time. Real time. Space to breathe, to process, to remember who I was before all the lies.
I rose on shaky legs, grabbed my bag, and turned toward the door only for his hand to close gently but firmly around my wrist.
“You’re leaving?” he asked, staring at me in quiet awe, as though the possibility hadn’t occurred to him.

I swallowed hard and managed a small nod. “I… I need to go home. There’s an anchor there that keeps me from zoning out, from losing my grip on reality.”
Silence fell again between us. He studied me for a long moment, then took a careful step closer. He understood. He truly did.
“I know it’s all too much,” he said softly. “I know I can’t just ask you to love me as your father and wipe away every wound I helped inflict. But I want a chance. I beg you for one.”
I looked away, blinking back the fresh sting of tears, but he continued, voice raw with pleading.
‘I was wrong. I know you understand why. My plight, the lies I was fed but that doesn’t excuse it. Give me a chance to right the wrongs. Just… a chance.”
It was almost unbelievable that the man who had once wanted me gone was now holding on like I was the only thing keeping him afloat.
Quietly, I walked back to the table where the documents lay, the ones that would change my name from Frost to Mooncrest. I stared at them for a long, heavy time.
Then I lifted my gaze to my human father. He sat perfectly still, offering no excuses, no defenses. His face had gone as whiten as

sheet. He couldn’t even seem to lift a limb at the revelation.
My human brothers sat beside him, faces etched with the same quiet sorrow. By blood, I wasn’t theirs, But the bond we had forged, the years of shared laughter, shared pain, shared survival was stronger than any DNA could ever be.
All my life, I had lived as a Frost. There was no need to erase that now.
I straightened my spine and turned back to my biological father.
