It was finally the day. The one day I never imagined would come, yet here it was unavoidable, heavy, real.

I pulled my car to a stop just outside Crescent Pack and reached for my phone to dial Dove’s number, letting her know I’d arrived.

Before I could press call, I spotted her walking toward me, Mother right beside her.

I stepped out quickly, offering a respectful bow in greeting. Mother closed the distance without hesitation and pulled me into a tight embrace.

Her palm rested firmly against my back, steady and comforting, before she drew back to search my eyes.

“Let’s go.”

I paused.

“You’re coming too?”

“You think I wouldn’t come to watch the man who did so much harm to you finally face sentencing?” Her voice was soft but ironclad. “I have to be there with you. Let’s go.”

I watched her settle into the backseat, then turned to Dove. She stood quietly, waiting.

She had called earlier to say her car had broken down and asked for a ride to the courthouse. Today was Feroz’s day, his first and final hearing.

Quietly, I slid back behind the wheel. Dove joined me in the passenger seat.

I pulled out onto the road in silence. The quiet stretched until Mother broke it gently.

“Have you been keeping in touch with your father, Snow?”

I stayed silent for several long moments before shaking my head.

“Eshan and I still talk, but… the rest, I think they just need time.”

A soft sigh escaped her.

“I spoke to Grant the other day. He sounded… weak. Maybe you should visit him sometime.”

I glanced at her in the rearview mirror and nodded obediently. We eased into a traffic lane and came to a slow stop.

“Probably caused by the crowds wanting to see who Feroz really is,” Dove murmured, staring out the window. “The news is everywhere. Everyone’s watching at home, and even more are packed into the courthouse.”

I didn’t respond. I already knew. My biological father had filed for divorce, formally severing the bond with my mother and disowning Nero and Dante.

The newscasters had devoured the story and spread it far and wide. Now Feroz would stand before the court, and this was the end

of it.

Silence returned, thick and thoughtful, until I turned in my seat to face Mother directly.

“Mom… how about you move out of Crescent Pack?” I suggested gently. “We could go house hunting together. Whichever one you love, whichever feels right… I’ll get it for you. Hmm?”

She glanced slowly at Dove who looked stunned then back to me. She knew Dove had told me things. Gradually, she lowered her gaze, a faint flush of embarrassment coloring her cheeks.

“Don’t bother. We’re fine,” she murmured.

I swallowed.

The Moon Goddess had created werewolves with so many different attitudes and emotions. Mother carried one in particular. Her fierce independence. She hated asking for help. That pride had cost her dearly in the past and now she was doing it again.

I knew she wouldn’t say more.

Quietly, I turned to Dove, speaking to her alone.

“How about tomorrow? We should go look. Another apartment away from the violence, away from the abuse, Dove. Trust me… it might be too late next time.”

Silence hung in the car. Dove looked at me for a long moment, eyes glistening.

“I’ve been saving up for an apartment, Moon goddess knows my job don’t pay much.” she said quietly. “You can afford a house?”
