Chapter 347
Showflakes
“On the night of the Dark Alley incident, Ares Bani, you claim you were at Love Avenue to discuss business with your partner Can you tell us who this business partner is? Your only alibi. Let us know who it was”
When Eshan asked the question, I sat perfectly still, knowing we were now in full swing.
This was exactly the plan. Give Ares the sweet taste of victory, let him bask in the illusion of safety, then rip it away when he it swallowed too much of his own arrogance.
Ares glanced at his lawyer, Rusi, then slowly back to Eshan. He’d never thought we’d push this far, never imagined we’d dig into his Love Avenue lie so deeply.
“Veyron,” Ares answered smoothly, voice steady. “My assistant. We had to discuss some late–night company matters. it was Veyron.”
“Really?” Eshan asked, tone deceptively mild. “Then explain this to us all.”
The projector hummed to life. A bright, crystal–clear image filled the screen. Ares and Kim Krates standing together close, conspiratorial, unmistakably familiar. Sharp murmurs rippled through the courtroom like a wave.
Ares‘ lawyer reacted instantly. “Your Honor, this is improper. My client has no association with Kim Krates, and this image cannot be admitted as evidence. It is clearly edited!”
I paused, swallowing hard. Every eye in the room shifted to Neils White. He studied the projection for a long beat, then nodded toward Rusi.
“The image will not be accepted
as evidence at this time.”
My fingers curled into tight fists under the table. We should have anticipated this. Neils was playing his part too well, too crookedly.
“My client has no connection whatsoever to Kim Krates, Mr. Frost,” Rusi pressed again, firmer now.
Eshan nodded almost agreeably, then turned, retrieved another file, and walked back to the center. This time he faced Ares directly, eyes locked.
“During the Dark Alley investigation, we uncovered something interesting about you, Ares Bani, and we followed it.
“Thank goodness you’ve already admitted you were at Love Avenue that night. Reporters and photographic evidence placed your there with Kim Krates, but since you now deny it, I have no choice but to bring the man himself to speak.”
Murmurs swelled again, but Eshan didn’t let them settle. He turned sharply to the bench.
“Your Honor, if you will permit it, I must introduce video footage we recorded of Kim Krates for this case.”
“That case is not on today’s docket,” Neils countered immediately.
Eshan inclined his head.
“The Director of H.O.W.L. has signed and sealed authorization. We also have agreement from Moon Tower. Here are the receipts.” He handed over the documents. “Kim Krates is a werewolf. Moon Tower demands justice for him. So will you?”

Ares had begun to panic visibly, shoulders tensing, jaw working. The mood in the room shifted like a tide turning

Eshan didn’t wait for further argument. The projector lit up again. Kim Krates appeared on screen, Young, handsome, but haunted
The grainy footage started quiet, the camera fixed on him. Then my voice came through gentle, patient because he’d only spoken
to me.
“Kim, tell me about Love Avenue. You said that was the last night you clearly remember before waking up here, right?”
“Right,” Kim answered softly in the video. “I… I went to meet a business partner that night. Actually, after my father’s brutal death… I haven’t been the same. But four years ago, I started getting back on my feet.
“looked at all my sketches, my projects, my dreams left unachieved, and I just wanted to finish them. Because I believe that’s what my father would have wanted.”
Silence blanketed the courtroom again. Kim continued, voice low but steady.
“I met him, Ares at a venue long ago… and we became friends. Partners, to cut it short. He told me about his plans was to become CEO while I poured in the brainwork and set up the projects, to build an airline, to become a pilot myself.
“Our goals aligned perfectly. I thought he was my friend. My very best one. And then that night, we met to finalize all the documents. That’s all I remember. Memories drift back and forth but never stay.
“Sometimes I’m floating, sometimes in a cell, sometimes in an asylum. Reality and dreams mixed until… until now.
“Now I can see you, Miss Snow, and I thank you. My appreciation to your brother Eshan too, for paying all the bills and keeping me safe.
“I saw the company called F.A.A.R today… all the infrastructure, everything, it was all my work. All I planned to make happen. Ares Bani isn’t the brain or the owner. It’s my work. He simply stole it to…”
