It was the insistent ring of my cellphone that jolted me awake that morning. I sat up quickly, heart racing, and checked the screen.
Eshan.
answered immediately.
‘Snow?”
‘Yes, Eshan. Good morning.”
Yes, dear. Bad news first. Viviana’s court case has been postponed a few days. Good news. Mr. Mane has been found.
Someone sent an anonymous tip last night. The cops raided the location, and right now he’s in H.O.W.L. custody for further nvestigation before formal charges. He had been high and drunk heavily. He wouldn’t stop calling Mother names and all.
I’ve already told Dove, she sounded like herself again. She said she’ll meet us there today around evening after finishing some eports.”
exhaled in deep relief, shoulders loosening.
Thank you, Eshan. I’ll let Marlik know too.”
Uh… yeah, about him. Actually, Dad wants to have a few words with him.”
nodded, even though he couldn’t see it. “Yes. I’ll tell him. Thank you, Eshan.”
‘You’re welcome.” He paused, then lowered his voice. “Would you like to come with me to the airport this afternoon? Around noon. Pinky is coming home, and I’m picking her up myself.”
jerked upright, eyes flying wide. Joy flooded through me like sunlight.
‘Pinky Pie?” Heat bloomed in my chest. “You bet. She owes me way too many hugs. I’m coming with you.”
‘Great! I’ll pick you up. How about at the first bus stop near home?”
Home. The word stung, a quiet wound. I swallowed.
“Sure,”
“Alright then.”
He disconnected. I smiled in pure glee for a moment then the smile slowly faded Why had Viviana’s court date been postponed? Was something off? Fishy?

That thought lingered as I turned to reach for him only to find the bed empty beside me. I paused Last night’s memories curtad back in. The argument, the distance, the way I’d pulled away

He was the kind of man who’d want eyes on me every second. What I couldn’t live with was him getting blood on his hands for my sake. If anything happened to him because of me… I couldn’t bear it.
Where was he this morning? He definitely hadn’t slept in the room.
I slipped into my dress, smoothed it down, and walked out to the balcony. There he was, curled on the living room couch, still fast asleep.
My heart swelled at the sight. He looked so peaceful, almost vulnerable, and guilt twisted in my chest for how I’d acted last night.
Quietly, I headed downstairs, loving the hush of the house. I knelt beside the couch and cupped his cheek gently with my palm.
He looked so lovely sleeping, lashes long and dark, features softened in repose. My heart ached with tenderness.
“Cupid?” I called softly, smiling at his bare feet. “Cupid?”
He blinked slowly, lashes fluttering open. Those striking green eyes met mine, and for a heartbeat, I forgot how to breathe.
“Good morning,” I said tenderly.

He didn’t speak or move at first. I hurried to add, “Cupid, Mr. Mane has been caught. He’s being held at H.O.W.L.”
I waited for a response, but he simply turned his back to me, burrowing deeper into the couch like he wanted more sleep or more distance. I could tell he was still hurt from last night, our first real argument.
I took a breath. “I was thinking… getting a new house is unnecessary. How about the one I’m already living in?”
He stiffened. Slowly, he turned back to face me, waiting.
I sighed softly and took his hand. “The estate is yours. The bungalow is yours too… and I already love the place. If you really want me to choose a house as our matrimonial home, then… that bungalow is okay. What do you think?”
He looked at me quietly, searching, then slowly sat up, burying his face in his palms for a few long moments. He raked his fingers through his hair and met my eyes again.
Never had I seen anyone so beautiful. My God. How was I this blessed?
“I’m sorry,” he murmured softly.
I went still. He was apologizing
“I’m sorry I made you cry last night. I didn’t… I didn’t mean to make you worry. But I don’t regret hitting that asshole. If had chance again… he’d be dead by my hand.”
I exhaled slowly. What could I even say to that?
Gently, I rose and climbed into his lap. He leaned back as I settled against hum, pressing soft kisses atong his
