Eshan’s car screeched to a hurried stop. With my heart slamming against my ribs, I turned toward the blood smeared across the floorboard. What I saw made my stomach lurch.
Pinky had already flung open her door, ready to bolt, expecting me to follow. But instead of rushing out, I froze, staring at the torn scrap of fabric lying in the crimson pool.
The same cloth I’d worn that night in the dark alley. The same one ripped from my body four years ago.
Goosebumps raced across my skin. Almost absentmindedly, I reached out, fingers trembling until Eshan yanked his door open and hauled me out.
“Snap out of it, Snow! Are you okay?!”
I blinked, disoriented. “The night in the dark alley… the cloth I wore… a piece of it is here.”
Eshan thrust his head inside. Slowly, he reached for the gift box and retrieved a small flash drive tucked among the blood–soaked tissue. Our eyes met, wide, stunned.
Someone was playing a sick game.
“Let’s deliver this to H.O.W.L. I’ll make a call.”
Eshan dialed quickly. It didn’t take long before another car screeched up beside us. Sera leaped out, pulled Pinky into a fierce hug, then rushed over to stare at the blood.
“We’ll check what’s on the drive at H.O.W.L. Come on.”
Eshan turned to Pinky, chest still heaving. She spoke before he could.
“I’m coming with you. Period.”
He didn’t argue. We piled into Sera’s car while Eshan called someone to retrieve his vehicle. Sera floored it toward H.O.W.L.
We arrived fast and hurried inside but my steps faltered in the lobby. A cold, gnawing energy clawed at my skin, my heart. I paused,
unsettled.
Eshan stopped too, approaching gently.
“Are you alright? Come on, Snow.”
I forced a smile and followed. The sliding doors hissed shut behind us. We took the elevator up to the forensic floor. Sera headed straight for her research lab.
“You should wait in my office, Pinky,” Eshan said softly. “Come, let me walk you there.” He glanced at me. “I’ll be right back.”
I nodded, watching them disappear down the hall. Alone in the quiet corridor, I lingered for a moment, then my gaze caught on a retreating figure farther down. I frowned.
Sera was supposed to be the only one here, and she was in the lab.

Quietly, I followed. Through the glass, I saw her working, swabbing the blood from the flash drive, wiping the sample clean. She lifted her gaze, saw me, and stepped out, peeling off her gloves tiredly.
“Let’s check this out. Come on.”
We walked to her office. She opened her laptop. I watched her insert the drive, then her phone rang. She checked the caller, gave me a polite ‘one moment‘ gesture, and stepped outside.
The moment she left, the drive auto–played. Static crackled, then cleared into a live–stream video.
Feroz leaned against a wall, cigarette dangling from his lips. The wall looked too familiar, too close.
“I miss you, little sister,” he drawled, exhaling smoke. “Showing your face to me that day in court… it got me yearning for more. That’s why I decided to pay you a little visit. How about we continue where we stopped… four years ago?”
My heart plummeted. I lifted my gaze and froze.
A man stood in the doorway of Sera’s office. A jagged scar sliced across his cheek; his eyes were huge, hungry, unblinking.
Then he reached for the door handle.
I lunged forward and slammed the button. The door snatched shut, locking me inside.
I scrambled for my phone, fingers shaking as I dialed Eshan.
“Hey, Snow. What’s up? Did you ladies find anything?” His voice came steady, from somewhere nearby, maybe his office.
I shuddered.
“Eshan… where are you?”
“Outside. What’s wrong?”
Before he could finish, alarms blared through the building sharply, piercing.
“Snow?” Eshan’s tone sharpened with caution. “Snow, where are you? Where’s Sera?”
