My car pulls up into Godlike Pack, and I stop to look ahead. Everyone is busy with their daily tasks. Everyone is safe, and Snow too, and she and I have both witnessed her transformation. I was supposed to be happy, we are almost done. But somehow I can’t brush off the feeling, some instinct as if dread lingers thick in the air.

Yesterday was the craziest day of my life. I still can’t believe it, can’t wrap my mind around it, and I can’t shake the fact that if I had arrived even one second later, Feroz might have had his way with Snow.

I frown as I think back, trying to remember her in wolf form.

“She is fierce,” I murmur, pride swelling in my chest as I look at him. “I was pinned down by Feroz’s wolf when she suddenly launched herself at him, fiercely.”

“Really? She’s protective of you?” he asks enthusiastically.

I find myself laughing softly before nodding.

“I guess so.”

I look away to sigh when his voice comes again, quieter this time.

I pause, turning to him. He means it, as if he has seen it in me all along, so there is no point denying.

I alight then and head inside, Desmond behind me. At last I push open the door to my father’s study. He looks up at me. My father. Beside him stands Beta Sky, and between them on the table lies a document that has already been signed.

I look up to see my father nod in greeting.

“I see you got the job done yesterday,” he says.

But Beta Sky murmurs, “He did half the job. Why didn’t he kill Feroz when he had the chance?”

My father shifts his gaze to me, as if considering the same question. Before he can speak, Desmond answers.

“Cupid had little time. He only managed to hang Feroz before the doors all lifted. For now, Feroz is in the hospital.”
