Chapter 366
Snowflakes
Larrive at H.O.W.L. under the morning sky. Reporters, newscasters, and crowds cram outside the building, but my car is guided smoothly into the garage.
I alight to see Eshan already waiting, this time with Sera and Pinky. I frown at their gathering, then step into Sera’s open arms for a tight hug. I greet Pinky with another embrace before finally settling my gaze on Eshan.
Somehow it feels odd to doubt him now, and I don’t know what to believe anymore.
“Come on,” he says without pushing anything. Together he leads us all toward the director’s office.
Mr. Castle is seated behind his desk when we walk in. I stop short, wondering what is wrong. I glance around realizing, everyone is looking at me.
Then I swallow, sensing whatever they want to say won’t sit well.
“After yesterday’s events, we all went home to ponder who made it possible for Feroz to leave his jail and come right here,” Mr. Castle begins, “and who had the authority to shut down the doors and windows in this premises.”
Eshan takes over.
“Yesterday, after I escorted Pinky into my office, I received a call. He told me to step out of the H.O.W.L. building so he could say something very important.”
“Me too,” Sera confirms. “The moment I walked out, he disconnected the call.”
“He didn’t give me the call because he didn’t know I was back and inside the building,” Pinky adds.
This time I feel too confused to speak or even move. Who is “he” they are talking about?
As if reading my thoughts, footage flickers onto the screen ahead. My human father, Grant Frost, meeting with the warden at Feroz’s jail. I go slowly still at the sight, cold chills racing down my spine.
“When you called me yesterday, Snow, telling me you were heading to Pinky, Dad was with me,” Eshan continues. “He heard every word. I know he chose Viviana over you, but I never imagined he’d want you dead so the dark alley case would close permanently and Viviana wouldn’t be charged in court anymore.”
“But he couldn’t have done it alone,” Mr. Castle says. “Grant Frost is powerful and wealthy, but he couldn’t have brought Feroz here and navigated the H.O.W.L. building all by himself. He had help from someone even more powerful.”
Hearing the real truth, my knees simply sway. Then another truth crashes over me like cold water splashed across my face.
“Yesterday’s incident has been bloody,” Eshan says. “We kept the dead bodies out of the news.”
I turn to him sharply. “Dead bodies? Feroz only killed one staff member.”
“No.” He shakes his head. “Five deaths. Three of Feroz’s men were injected with poisonous substances and rushed to the hospital, but they died overnight, boils and ugly dots all over their bodies. The staff member who died. And lastly… Mr. Mane, Dove’s father.”
I stagger backward in shock, drowning.

Chapter 366
“What are you talking about?” I murmur, scoffing in disbelief. “Mr. Mane is dead?”

“Yes. Overnight. He suffered the same fate as Feroz’s men.” Eshan looks between Pinky and me. “Why would Feroz and his men fight each other to the point that Feroz killed them? And why would Feroz kill Mr. Mane?”
Hearing that question, Pinky and I slowly share a look. She isn’t speaking, and neither am I ready to start. Cupid wat here He is the one who injected Feroz’s men. I will never let Cupid come to H.O.W.L. and start answering questions as a murderer. Not even over my dead body.
“Feroz must have killed Mr. Mane because he knows Dove is my best friend,” I lie smoothly, swallowing hard and looking up at Eshan. He turns to Mr. Castle, who nods.
“That explains it and why we have to hurry.”
I frown. “Hurry?”
“Since he killed Mr. Mane, it seems he is after the people close to you. Before he kills anyone else, we need to catch him.”
“Feroz… Feroz is in the hospital. The news says so, right?” I murmur, my voice barely above a whisper.
Silence falls, and it makes my skin crawl. What is going on?
“Feroz fled last night,” Eshan says quietly. “We didn’t air that in the news so the public won’t panic. For now we are still searching for him. Where do you think he will go? He wasn’t in his pack, or Mooncrest, or with his mother. So where?”
My blood runs cold. Dread coils tight in my chest. Feroz isn’t in the hospital? Where will he be? Who will he be after?
I think about it, but not for long. My heart shakes violently. I rush and fumble with my bag, pulling out my cellphone to call Cupid.
My goodness, Cupid, please pick up.
