I arrived at Mooncrest that afternoon and parked at the end of the driveway leading to the Alpha building.
For a long moment I simply sat there, engine off, breathing in the stillness. I sighed deeply, letting the sacredness and holiness of the place settle over me like a blanket.
Mooncrest was one of the few packs I had never truly stepped into until now. The difference was immediate, profound. It was quiet here. Peaceful. Almost reverent.
To think that in the Alpha household for more than three decades, something so deeply wrong had been allowed to fester felt like an unfair cruelty from the Moon Goddess herself.
alighted quietly, grabbing the paper bag I had brought with me. The first guard I encountered bowed low as though I had been expected and parted ways without a word, allowing me to walk into the grand hall.

Please follow me. Alpha Herold will meet you soon.”

le was a striking man, tall, broad–shouldered, radiating quiet, effortless power.
le walked slowly onto the veranda, accompanied by a man who could only be his Beta. Alpha Herold settled into the seat across om me and nodded for me to sit as well.
Please give me some minutes,” he said to his Beta. The man glanced at me briefly, assessing then walked away without a word.
low alone with Alpha Herold of Mooncrest Pack, the awkwardness hit me like a wave. I was suddenly acutely aware that I was ere, in his domain, asking for his daughter’s hand.

now had inherited her beauty from this man, along with that quiet, piercing gaze. Lowered my eyes and began.
Thanks for having me, Alpha Herold. I uh… came to inform you about my intentions with your daughter, I was supposed to go to Ir. Frost, but recently I lost all respect for the man. So here I am.” (o
went straight to the point. He went quiet, eyes pinned to my face. No smile. No flicker of expression.

ancient, immovable force.
His gaze drifted downward to the paper bag at my feet. I remembered suddenly.
“I brought uh… a wine. Snow didn’t really know what you like. Here.” I pulled it out. “And a wristwatch. I modeled for it once, so ! can vouch it’s a good product.”
I swallowed, watching him. He didn’t move at first. Then he leaned forward slowly and took the wine bottle with careful, almost tender hands. He examined the label, turning it in the light. A small, genuine smile curved his lips.
“My favorite,” he said softly. “You got it right.”
His eyes moved to the watch. For a moment he hesitated, as though reluctant then looked away.
“I should get a maid to pour this. Can’t wait to taste it. You want a glass?”
I didn’t respond immediately. Something felt off, subtle, but unmistakable. Still, I nodded.
He summoned a maid with a quiet gesture. She brought glasses, popped the cork, and poured. Then she left us alone again.
I stared at the wristwatch, suddenly self–conscious, and began to slip it back into the bag.
‘Let me have it,” he said. “It’s mine, isn’t it?”
looked up and nodded. He accepted it this time, turning it over in his hands, examining the face and the strap with quiet attention.
At last he lifted his gaze to mine, and this time there was something raw in his expression. Sadness. Regret.
‘My daughter… Snow,” he began, voice low and measured. “I know how deeply she loves you.”
He paused, thumb brushing over the watch’s glass.
“And after neglecting her for years, leaving her to suffer alone, I don’t even think I have the right to tell her what’s right or wrong. She grew up without me. She grew up fine, strong, resilient. At this point, whatever Snow wants is what I want for her. All of it…. except you.”
I went completely still. Awe. Confusion. A cold thread of dread wound through my chest.
“Why?” The word came out heavy, almost a whisper.
He lowered his gaze to the wristwatch again. With a soft click, he activated it. The second hand began its steady tick.
“Because… you will die in a few days.”
The world seemed to pause. I stared at him as though he had lost his mind.
“If you’re trying to scare me away from Snow with some lie, please save your breath. With or without your blessing, I’m marrying
her.”
“Unless you want to make her a widow.”
