Holding onto the cellphone after the call. I stood before the massive room that showcased every nook and tranny of the city where cameras were installed,
Aly computers and tracking devices glowed; burner phones sat neatly in a corner. At the side, a door led
into the chamber where I kept my weapons perfectly arranged, blades, guns, injections, everything deadly enough to kill a human or a werewolf in an instant.
I stood in the middle of it all, my eyes fixed on the large IV in front of me as the news played.
Cherry Billions had given a statement do that Kahi Frost was the murderer. I was supposed to turn
away, let them all tear each other apart, as long as Godlife’s name wasn’t mentioned. But the call I had just received made it impossible.
She wanted to meet up.
Her. This beautiful woman who had been haunting my mind for the past few days. She sounded furious, and I knew she was already pacing at the terrace where she wanted us to meet.
It was something I could easily nore, leave her standing there. I also had a new shipment of hard drugs arriving at the airport tonight. I was supposed to welcome it personally.
But I doubted I could

that journey now.
I stepped out of the Metal Room, walked into my bedroom, pressed the button that opened my closet, grabbed a jacket, and walked out. My boots were already on.
I arrived at the underground garage, got into my car, and rode through the tunnel until I shot out onto the highway and into the city. It was already dark by the time I got to Hant Restaurant, and I was right, she was pacing when my car pulled up.
I alighted, walking into the building, ignoring the looks from staff and customers admiring both me and my car. Oh yes, I ride the best machines. I took the stairs up to the terrace.
She was pacing, but the moment she saw me, she froze, staring straight into my eyes.

Right then, the memory hit, fast and sharp. Our time last night. Her body soft under mine, her moans addictive. I searched her eyes for the trace of that moment, but it was gone, buried beneath something else. Serious. Fierce. She had pushed our night away to focus on the danger ahead. It was urgent to her.
“My brother will be arrested tomorrow if he doesn’t prove innocent. You are the one who killed Mr Hanba. Come to H.O.W.L and confess before I use force.”
Her words hung between us.
I nearly laughed in her face.
She was serious. Dead serious. She meant every word.
But I didn’t speak. I only stared into her eyes until her patience snapped.

Cupid.” She said my name, and even angry, it sounded weet. She stepped forward. “Cupid, please. Kashi can’t go to jail. Come to…
I’m going nowhere,” I murmured.
Her face drained of color. She searched my eyes like I had stabbed her, like I had betrayed her in a way words could never measure.
She swallowed, scoffing at herself. When she looked back at me, her feelings were raw and clear.
“What did I even expect from a man who looks like a gangster.
With that, she walked away, leaving me standing alone on the terrace. I watched from above as she drove her car out of the Hant Restaurant garage and joined the road.
For a long moment I didn’t move. I didn’t speak. When her car finally disappeared from sight, I swallowed hard.
“Come out,” I said over my shoulder.
A few seconds later, Desmond stepped from the shadows where he had been lurking. I had seen him from the visor following my car as I entered the city.
“What’s going on, Boss? She knows your involvement in Hanba’s death?” Desmond asked, awe and concern mixing in his voice.
I didn’t answer his question. I asked my own.
“How was her brother identified as a suspect? Was he at the vacation house that night?”
“It’s a frame plan. A new piece of evidence was found at the crime scene. A scalpel with Kashi’s fingerprints.”
I sighed deeply, staring out into the road, thinking of everything that was unfolding. My brother’s name wasn’t mentioned. My family name wasn’t dragged in.
By every rule, I shouldn’t interfere.
“Should we find out who planted the evidence? You didn’t use a scalpel to kill Hanba, right?” Desmond asked.
At that, I lowered my gaze at him, and he quickly looked away.
“Shouldn’t we be worried that the investigation is still going on? What about Brown Fash, the night watchman? What if he’s found? And that lady who just threatened you, she’s smart. She’ll try to find something to free her brother.”
“I know,” I murmured, then shrugged. “But she won’t find anything that leads back to Godlike. As for Brown Fash, he’s already planning on moving far away. Let’s go to the airport. Our new drugs are arriving soon.”
“Yes, boss.”
I looked away, heading off the terrace. I got into my car, riding toward work while struggling to shove her out of my thoughts. She was from the Frost family. Maybe it was time I started noting who she really was.
How was she even this deep in the investigation?

What was her full name again?
She called me a gangster.
And she’s right. I am one, one of the deadliest.

The truth settled heavy in my throat, but what bothered me more was the way she walked away from me like I was nothing but danger wrapped in skin.
“Who implicated her brother?” I asked.
Desmond’s eyes flicked up, concern etched all over his face.
“Cherry Billions. She made a statement saying Kashi Frest is the one.”
I swallowed hard, jaw tightening. My hand reached instinctively for my phone.
No hesitation. No room for it.
I dialed the contact.
“Let’s meet before you leave the city.”
