I bursted my way into H.O.W.L, dashing into the elevator and pacing desperately while waiting for the doors
to open.
With my heart racing and my palms burning, I rushed raight into the first floor where the main hall was located, pushing my way toward the meeting room only to freeze at the doorway.
Everyone was already there except the Forensic Department. Even Mr Gerald. They all stood outside while Wrinks interrogated Cherry Billions inside, with the Director and Deputy Director present.
The newscaster from Sweet Gossip Feed, Claudia, was also there with her full team. Dove wasn’t present, she worked as a field reporter for Sweet Gossip Feed but Claudia being here said enough.
Claudia was Mirena’s rival. Anything that would taint Daylight News was something Claudia would happily destroy the world to broadcast.
I looked away from her, forcing my feet to move slowly forward until I stopped at the glass wall to peer into the long hall.
There Cherry Billions sat, a handkerchief in her hand as she dabbed her tears. Giving Wrinks.

But I could see through all of that façade.
“I never knew he is capable of doing such a thing, ma’am. There are many evidences I can render which show how obsessed he has been with Hanba’s wealth.”
My blood ran cold. I stepped forward immediately, but Quince caught my wrist and stopped me. My heart pounded in my throat as I turned to him, seeing him shaking his head.
“Let the interrogation finish. You can’t interrupt.”
“But…”
“The evidence all points to Kashi Frost. Better prepare yourself. Your connections can’t help you this time.” Mr Gerald said, making me swallow hard.
I walked away to pace, fear crawling into my bones. Why would Cherry Billions want to implicate Kashi? Why? How did she even…?
“It’s her word against my brother. That isn’t enough to arrest Kashi,” I murmured almost to myself, but Mr. Gerald answered sharply, glaring.
“The arrest warrant has already been issued. The Director is only stalling.”
Before I could respond, Mr Gerald was called inside the hall. He stared me down before stepping in to make his analysis. I stood there, heart lodged painfully in my chest.
“Wrinks revisited the crime scene last night, you know,” Quince said beside me. “She found a scalpel. The Forensic Department is trying to extract evidence from it, and if it brings out your brother’s DNA, even the Director won’t have a choice but to sign the arrest warrant.”
My heart sank to the floor. A scalpel at the vacation home? That was a lie. A blatant, white lie.

“Have you ever seen this scalpel with Kashi Frost before Wrinks asked Cherry Billions again, and Cherry jolted, bursting into tears.
“No. L… I don’t know.”
At that moment, the sound of footsteps pulled me back to myself. I turned to see the Forensic team approaching, Seraphine leading them. When she reached the hall, she paused and stared straight at me and my heart raced in terror.
They were the team who checked fingerprints, DNA, evilence…
And staring into her eyes, I could already tell a result was out.
Her cellphone rang. She swallowed hard, answered.
“Yes, love?” Her voice was quiet, exhausted. A few seconds passed before she nodded. “Alright.”
It was Roc, my eldest brother. I could tell from the way she addressed him.
After the call ended, Sera opened the door and stepped into the meeting room. We all followed quietly to hear the verdict.
“The result is out,” she said, passing the folder to Marcus her assistant, who accepted it and took over since Sera couldn’t present something so personal.
Marcus handed the papers to Wrinks, who read through them slowly. Then she placed them before the Director of H.O.W.L, who sat silently at the head of the table.
“On the scalpel were the fingerprints of Kashi Frost. With Cherry Billions‘ statement as well, I think this is sufficient to say Kashi Frost should be brought in for questioning, sir,” Wrinks announced.
I went still. A cold chill traveled down my spine.
It was all closing in on my brother. Soon even the CEO of Daylight, Mirena’s father would no longer be able to stop channels from broadcasting the arrest of his soon–to–be son–in–law.
A murder prime suspect? That was too big.
Wrinks moved to the Director and placed the arrest warrant before him. All it needed was his signature. My stomach twisted painfully.
“We will announce the news immediately you sign the arrest warrant, sir,” Claudia said, eager to blast the story everywhere.
But just as the Director reached for his pen, fast footsteps echoed, and Mirena Daylight appeared in the doorway.
So elegant. So beautiful. And furious.
Her eyes locked immediately onto Cherry Billions, the woman who had made a false allegation against her boyfriend. Mirena’s jaw tightened, but she didn’t burst out. She walked straight to the Director and bowed.
“Father, I have come to…”
“The arrest warrant will be signed now, and Sweet Gossip Feed will announce it,” Claudia cut in, making

“You should keep quiet and prepare, because I will sue you and your entire organization for spreading false information today.” Mirena warned, but Claudia scoffed
“What false news? Your boyfriend is a prime suspect. Ask your big sister–in–law. She personally examined the scalpel found at the scene.
Mirena went pale instantly, turning to Sera, who nodded sadly.
“There is only little I can do when evidence is staring everyone in the face, Mirey,” the Director said softly. “He will be brought in for questioning.”
“Father, please. Kashi is innocent. You know him, don’t you?” she whispered,
“He is like a son to me. Of course I do. Investigation will continue after questioning. This is not the end.”
Silence blanketed the room. And I saw the truth clearly.
If the news broke out that Kashi Frost was the killer, the Frost name would be ruined forever.
We had only one option and that is to prove him innocent.
“More time, Father,” I murmured from where I stood, drawing every eye to me. “Please give us more time to investigate before you approve the arrest warrant.”
“There is nothing left to investigate,” Wrinks said sharply. “Would you ask for more time if he wasn’t your brother?”
The question hit me hard, but before I could speak, Mirena walked to me and gripped my hand, searching
my eyes.
“You think you can solve it? You solved a case years ago that earned you accolades, Snow. Please help me this time. If Kashi is arrested… I won’t survive it.”
I saw it in her eyes.
I wouldn’t survive it either.
Kashi was my brother. My protector. Days ago he playfully told me to repay his kindness. Now the debt was
real.
“I will need time,” I said. Mirena swallowed and turned toward the Director, then dropped to her knees before him.
“I beg you, Father. Please… give us more time.”
“We can’t do…” Wrinks began, but the Director pushed the arrest warrant away.
“Invite Kashi Frost only for questioning, not arrest. If evidence does not prove him innocent within twenty four hours, then he will be arrested.”
It’s official now, and I know I have to act fast, because Wrinks and Mr Gerald won’t do anything. It’s all on
