Chapter 86

Cupid

None of us speaks. I didn’t have anything much to say in the first place. All I can think of now is the order of my father. The single command he gave, and the fact that I know he won’t be merciful the next time he repeats himself.

I finished dressing and paused at the stairs to overlook my living room. There she sat on the couch, her eyes still fixed on the television, but I could tell her mind wasn’t on the news anymore. It was on something else.

I stood there watching her, and as though she felt my presence, she turned her head to look up at me. Bright, lively gray eyes stared back, innocent, pleading eyes. I know what she asks for, and it is beyond my power now to give her what her heart desires.

When it comes to the Godlike Mafia Empire, I am the king, and I am meant to do everything it takes to make the empire thrive. Sleeping with women to get my way is one of the simplest things I’ve done, but now it seems the hardest, because under this beautiful woman’s gaze, I feel powerless more than ever.

Come take your bath,” I said to her, and she got up from where she sat, walked up the stairs, and bypassed me into the bathroom but then she paused, turning around to stare at me, her heart refusing to breathe.

Cupid. She called, and I tried not to respond. I tried to ignore her, to never waver or show any emotion.

I turned around to settle my gaze on her, but all the barriers I had built shattered. She was literally pleading with her eyes.

Cupid, please

I looked away from her face, heading toward the closet, more like fleeing. I left her standing there before she could speak more, and I walked through the rows of clothes until I stopped at the lovely dress I had picked out for her the other night when I went shopping with my younger sister, Almira.

I swallowed at the sight and slowly picked it up, along with the heels. When I walked out of the closet, I heard that she was already bathing. I waited patiently, ignoring my phone that had started buzzing again.

Snowflakes finally finished bathing and walked in naked, purposefully so. She had dried herself already, but her hair was still damp and lovely.

I lowered my gaze from her body, trying all I could not to focus, but she made it all difficult by walking past me, almost brushing me to reach for the dress on the bed. She looked at it for a while, then glanced at me.

“Who owns it?she asked, her eyes innocent and lovely and it took a lot of restraint not to kiss her.

I swallowed.

It’s yours,” I murmured before turning away to leave the bedroom, but her voice came from behind, quiet, cutting deep.

Would you mind if I also lay with another man? Let him fuck me until his name never leaves my lips?

I rode out of the tunnel and onto the busy road soon, silence enveloping us both. I could feel her stare, feel her frustration, her anger, and helplessness, as if she couldn’t help any of it. Her jealousy was visible, and I knew I would lose myself if I glanced at her.

This morning had been brighter than expected, and I had given her that dress, watched her stare at it with reverence but she had asked that question that nearly made me reach for her neck and snap it.

After a long ride, I finally pulled up not far from the sacred court that stood between the two worlds. I kept my hand on the wheel for a moment before setting my jaw. Reaching for the compartment, I pulled out the card I had prepared and extended it to her.

She stared at it in confusion, then in awe, and I explained,

It’s a Golden Card. You can use it. Get yourself anything you want.” I murmured, and when she accepted it, I reached for the car key and handed it over.

This is a brand new car. A model you’d like. It will be delivered to you whenever you want. The dealer will keep in touch.

I stopped there, staring ahead, then asked quietly,

After the divorce, do you have where you will live?

Snowflakes went mute, looking at me in awe, then pulling herself back to reality, she nodded softly.

I will stay with my human family.”

stayed with her loved ones for now, since she was still healing.

But that is if the divorce is approved, she muttered, making me glance at her. I could see the regret in her

in her eyes. I shouldn’t have filed for the divorce. Now because of meKashi will be losing his winning streak.

Oh, because of her brother.

I swallowed, almost sighing in relief. I had feared she would say she regretted it because she still had lingering feelings for that man.

I finally looked away from her, expecting her to get out and go into the court, but she didn’t take her eyes off me. I could feel it.

Thank you,her soft voice came, but I ignored it. I deserved no thanks. She deserved more than a limitless golden card and the latest car model, especially after her ex had taken all her things.

Cupid?she called again, making me turn to look at her. She leaned over and kissed my cheek. When she pulled back, her eyes spoke only one language. Love.

I will wait for you. I will calm you every day, and I will keep my body warm and clean for you. Only you.”

It was a vow, and before I could recover from her promises, she made to get out but I said from where I sat,

Do you trust me?

Hearing that question, she sat back and turned to settle her gaze on me, searching the very depth of my soul.

Do

you trust me?I asked again, silence stretching for an eternity before in response, she leaned in to kiss my lips. When she pulled back, helplessness marked her expression, making her so innocent and fragile.

She lowered her gaze, biting her lower lip before looking up again.

I trust you, Cupid. II trust you so much, and I want you more thanshe swallowed, helpless to the feelings. I want you more than I have ever wanted anyone. Just you for myself.

She spoke only truth. Her eyes showed it. Her reactions and expressions spoke volumes.

I searched her gaze one last time, my heart aching that I had to put her through the pain of

Hearing that, I nodded, putting away the house key I intended to give her. It was better she stayed with her loved ones for now, since she was still healing.

I leaned softly toward her lips, and she parted them, ready to kiss me but I left her there, needing her to learn how to survive the ache of me being far away.

A witness will walk into the court soon,I said softly, eyes searching hers. Trust me with all your heart. Go in there with your head high and stand firm that the man is a cheater. Speak boldly to the press and never waver. A witness will confirm your words as truth.

She sat in silence, searching my eyes again and again until I finally leaned in to kiss her.

Snowflakes lowered her gaze, savoring the moment. She lingered a bit, then when I pulled back, she stared at me a moment longer and finally stepped out, moving aside while I drove toward the airport.
