The afternoon in Dragon Beast City was peaceful. Beastmen came and went through the streets while guards at the city gates watched everyone entering and leaving.
No one noticed the old man slowly approaching from the distance.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The sound of his crutch touching the ground echoed faintly across the road.
He looked incredibly old. His silver-white hair was tied into a loose braid hanging past his hips, and his long white beard was loosely woven into several smaller braids.
His face was covered in deep wrinkles, his body thin and frail. Barefoot, wearing old dust-covered clothes, he carried a loose cloth bag over his shoulder.
In his hand was a strange crutch made of twisted, dark bark from an ancient tree. He leant heavily against it, looking so weak that even a gentle breeze might knock him over.
At the city gate, a guard stepped forward and blocked his path. "Stop. Who are you, old man? No one enters without proper identification."
The old man simply stood there, his cloudy eyes looking towards the city.
Slowly, he reached into his cloth bag. The old man rummaged around before taking out a small object. The moment the guards saw it, their expressions shifted instantly.
"Ah... please, go ahead," the guard said, stepping aside.
The old man gave a faint smile. "Thank you."
Tap. Tap. Tap.
His back gradually disappeared into the city.
"Who was that?" the first guard asked.
"I don’t know."
"Then why let him pass?"
The guard lowered his voice, recalling the mysterious token. "Because of that. Don’t ask questions."
Meanwhile, the old man walked for a very long time through the vast city.
Some beastmen glanced at him curiously, while others ignored him. He simply kept moving until he finally stopped in front of a large, peaceful residence surrounded by a wooden fence.
He lifted his head and knocked on the gate. "Is there anyone here?"
Receiving no answer, he knocked again. "Is anyone here?"
"Who do you want to meet?" a deep voice called out from behind.
The old man turned to see Shi Feng standing there. Shi Feng swept his gaze over the visitor from head to toe.
The old man looked utterly frail, leaning on a wooden stick without a trace of a threatening aura or anything.
Shi Feng’s expression softened slightly. "Whom do you want to meet, old man?"
The old man coughed weakly before looking up. "Su Qinglan."
Shi Feng’s face hardened instantly, his eyes narrowing into a sharp glare. "How do you know her?"
The old man offered a faint, unbothered smile. "Can you call her for me? I have something important to tell her."
Shi Feng’s instincts screamed that something was wrong. How did a stranger know his Su Qinglan?
