The child's bloodline couldn't be changed, but his mother certainly could be.
Finnick stepped into the living room. The smile on Norene's face vanished instantly, while Hans looked at his so-called father with a mixture of hope and fear. But Finnick didn't even glance at him, let alone call his name.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Hans's eyes.
Finnick instructed the housekeeper to take the boy upstairs.
Once they were alone, Norene sat back down, her tone sharp. "When are you going to let me go home? Our marriage was a sham, the wedding's over. Why are you still keeping me here?"
If he didn't have her phone, passport, and bank cards, she would have been long gone!
Finnick fastened the button on his cuff. "Your parents aren't worried, so why are you in such a rush?"
Norene turned her face away, her expression one of pure frustration.
Suddenly, Finnick grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. "I can see you're getting along with the boy. From now on, you will be his mother."
"Are you insane?" Norene shoved his hand away and jumped to her feet. "Why on earth would I be a stepmother to your son? You have plenty of other women out there, it's not like you can't find someone else!"
Finnick chuckled. "Those women outside can't compare to you, Miss Lennox. Or perhaps... you're planning on bearing me a child of your own?"
Norene recoiled from him. "I'm not having children."
And certainly not with him.
He smirked, straightening up slowly. "Well, then the choice is yours, Miss Lennox."
After Finnick left, Norene collapsed back into her chair, overwhelmed with frustration. They had only had a fake wedding; they hadn't even gotten a marriage license. Could he actually be serious?
She didn't want to spend her life with a jerk like him! She wondered how Charlotte and the others were doing...
