Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 525

That evening, Charlotte arrived at the door of Evander's hotel suite carrying several gift bags. She hesitated for a moment before ringing the doorbell.

A few moments later, Evander opened the door.

He had just showered. His hair was still damp, and steam seemed to rise from his bathrobe, carrying the scent of the hotel's high-end shower gel.

"These are for you," Charlotte said, holding out the bags.

He glanced down at them. "What's this?"

"A thank-you gift."

He raised an eyebrow. "A thank-you for what?"

"The Lowe family came to apologize today. I assume that had something to do with you?" After thinking it over, he was the only person who fit the bill.

Evander stepped aside. "Bring them in."

Charlotte had planned to just drop the gifts and leave, but as she turned to go, she was startled by the man suddenly standing behind her. She stumbled backward, bumping into the edge of a table and almost losing her balance.

With lightning-fast reflexes, Evander wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her securely into his embrace.

A wave of masculine warmth enveloped her. The clean scent of his shower gel mingled with a faint trace of coffee, filling her senses.

Her gaze accidentally fell on the surgical scar visible inside his robe before she quickly looked away. "Looks like you had the surgery."

He looked down at her. "Don't just look."

Charlotte's cheeks flushed. She instinctively tried to push him away, but he caught her hand and pressed it against his firm chest. The warmth of his skin sent a tingling sensation through her fingertips.

Evander watched the woman in his arms. Her eyes were lowered, her long lashes trembling like the wings of a startled butterfly, and a lovely blush colored her fair cheeks. She was still so easy to tease.

A barely perceptible smile touched his lips. "I'll let you touch," he murmured, his voice laced with amusement.

His warm breath brushed against her ear, and her ears instantly turned bright red. She wrenched herself out of his arms, taking several steps back to put distance between them. "Who wants to touch you? I came to drop off the gifts. I'm leaving."

He grunted in pain, doubling over slightly.

Charlotte made it to the door, then paused and looked back at him, her chin held high. "In your dreams, bastard!"

She slammed the door shut behind her.

Evander rubbed his knee, slowly straightening up. Her temper was certainly getting worse. This wasn't going to be easy for him.

He turned, his eyes falling on the bags on the table. The thought that she had brought him a gift in person was a comforting one. But when he eagerly tore open the packaging, his face darkened. Inside were boxes of expensive ginseng, high-end tonics, and other luxury health supplements.

Charlotte had no idea what was in the boxes, as they were the gifts Emmett had brought. Since she and her father had no use for them, she had simply regifted them to Evander.

He would probably be furious when he realized. The thought brought a small smile to her face.

Just then, an old man suddenly darted across the road. Charlotte swerved hard to avoid him, crashing into a car coming from behind.
