Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 634

Ilse Sylvan Howard stood by the window, watching Evander get out of the car. Then, uncharacteristically, she returned to her seat to wait for him.

The bodyguard opened the door, and moments later, Evander strode in with a single man behind him, leaving the rest of his guards posted outside.

Ilse was no longer her usual confrontational self. Instead, she spoke with a quiet air of self-reflection. “I’ve thought it through, what you said about splitting from the family. I’m getting older. Even if I keep fighting, how long can I last? In the end, you can’t win against the younger generation. It seems it’s better to take a step back and secure a peaceful life for myself. It’s just my daughter, Genevieve… she’s done nothing wrong. All I ever wanted was to secure more benefits for her, something for her to fall back on. I suppose I miscalculated.”

Evander watched her, a silent smile on his face. Her words carried a hint of sincerity, and perhaps they were even genuine, but it was hard to tell just how much of it was true.

Ilse looked a bit awkward and flustered. “Evander, I know you don’t trust me, and frankly, I’m not happy about being in your custody. But I really have done a lot of thinking these past few days. Your Uncle Jensen was reckless, and he wronged the Jensen matriarch. But he still has Howard blood in his veins. Perhaps splitting from the family is the best solution after all.”

After a long pause, he finally spoke. “It’s good that you can see it that way, Aunt Ilse.”

“We were one family,” Ilse sighed, as if she had truly come to terms with it. “To make such an ugly scene, all for the sake of fame and fortune… if we can end this peacefully, the Jensen matriarch would also be at ease.”

Evander leaned back in his chair, his fingertips tapping a light, rhythmic beat on the table as he considered something.

Ilse suddenly asked, “Evander, since I’ve agreed to your terms, can you promise me one thing? Don’t worry, it’s nothing unreasonable.”

He met her gaze. “Go on.”

“This business with me and your Uncle Jensen… it has nothing to do with Genevieve. When you return to The Capital, you won’t make things difficult for her, will you?” Her face was filled with worry.

Evander paused for a few seconds, then his gaze became unreadable. “Fine.”
