Evander was just sitting down on the sofa. Right as his gaze was about to sweep across the table, Charlotte casually threw herself onto his lap.
It happened entirely without warning.
Evander froze, staring at her with profound confusion in his dark eyes.
Charlotte forced a wildly unnatural smile. "If I said I tripped, would you believe me...?"
He narrowed his eyes, waiting a long moment before letting out two words. "I would."
She blinked, stunned.
"Forget tripping. If you claimed you fell out of the sky and landed right in my arms, I'd believe it." Seeing him playfully mocking her with a completely straight face, Charlotte feigned annoyance and started to get up to clear the table.
He instantly pulled her back down. As he wrapped his arms securely around her, his hand brushed against her waist and lower stomach.
Charlotte didn't dare breathe, completely rigid until she heard him ask in confusion, "Have you put on some weight?"
She stiffened, sucked in a massive breath to tighten her core, and glared at him. "Who are you calling fat?"
Amusement crinkled the corners of Evander's eyes. "I just made an observation. Why the sudden fury?"
"Women hate being called fat. Do you seriously not know that, Mr. Howard?" Charlotte broke free from his embrace, throwing some sarcastic snark his way to divert his attention. While casually cleaning off the table, she swiftly swept the pregnancy test into the trash can.
Once she was done, she threw a subtle glance his way. He hadn't noticed a thing.
She stood up, casually kicking the trash can further under the table. "About yesterday. Thanks."
She was referring to the moment she was swarmed by reporters.
"If you really want to thank me, accompany me to a charity gala tomorrow night," he said, slowly standing up. "Ilse will be there."

After dragging Vance to the police station, Foster anticipated the guy would try to walk back his confession, so he immediately handed the audio recording to the officers.
Vance was completely blindsided. "You... you recorded me?!"
