"Whether to believe it or not is for the police to decide. He's in the station right now. Of course, I hope he's lying. Otherwise, if his actions implicate you, it might be hard for you to get out of it." Charlotte finished speaking, gave her a meaningful look, and added, "You'd better be careful."
Before Ilse could recover, Charlotte decisively walked away.
Ilse suspected she was pregnant, so it was unwise for Charlotte to stay and argue. She would wait for the day Ilse and Vance turned on each other.
...
As Charlotte reached the parking lot, a strong arm suddenly pulled her behind a car. She looked up, recognized the man's features, and frowned, "Why are you only getting here now? Weren't you in the ballroom?"
Evander glanced around and smiled, "You went in. Did you see everything?"
"Yeah, I sure did. I thought they'd come up with some dirty trick to deal with you, teaming up with The Pembrokes. Turns out it's a honey trap?" Charlotte looked down and adjusted her fur coat.
He watched her, "Why so sour? Could you be jealous?"
Charlotte, "..."
She pushed him away, "Everyone knows our divorce is practically set in stone, and you find a version 2.0 of me? Doesn't that just prove you can't get over your ex-wife? Whose brilliant idea was that? Your Uncle Jensen's, Ilse's, or someone from The Pembrokes?"
Evander tilted his head back slightly, seeming to hold back a laugh, "Mm, it was Jonathan's idea."
Charlotte said nothing.
"Should I send someone to take you home?" Evander squinted.
"No need." Charlotte walked to her car door. Just as she opened it, he called out again, "Aren't you going to tell me anything?"
She looked back at him, smiled, "We're divorced. Might as well do the whole act."
