"Mr. Howard... do you remember me?" Easter stopped beside Evander, doing her best to display what she thought was a beautiful smile.
Evander's gaze fell on the cheongsam she wore. His eyes darkened almost imperceptibly, but the expression vanished in an instant.
He nodded and smiled, "I remember. You're the one... who contacted my secretary that day, right?"
Easter nodded, "I didn't think you would remember."
"Mr. Howard has met Easter before?" Jonathan walked over, his tone meaningful. "I thought this was your first meeting."
Victor and Jensen both looked towards Evander.
Evander smiled faintly and said meaningfully, "I ran into her in the parking lot the other day. I almost thought she was my wife." He then glanced at Easter, "Does Miss Sterling also know Mr. Pembroke?"
Easter froze. Just as she was about to say something, Jonathan casually dismissed it, "I've met her, but we're not close. She does resemble your wife. Not only Mr. Howard mistook her, even I did a double take that day."
"Alright, enough of that." Victor was clearly displeased. His displeasure stemmed from Jonathan talking about Charlotte.
His own son pining over someone else's wife? How inappropriate.
"Weren't you going to toast Mr. Howard?" Victor stared sharply at Easter, seemingly warning her too.
She should have no thoughts other than doing The Pembrokes' bidding.
Easter toasted Evander. His glass happened to be empty just then, and the same bartender came over to refill it.
Evander watched as she drank her wine first, as if confirming something, before drinking his own.
Seeing this, Ilse noticed a flicker of coldness in her eyes.
......
The next morning, before Charlotte was fully awake, her phone rang insistently. Too tired, she groggily rejected the call.
