Wesley was silent for so long that Charlotte thought the call had dropped before his voice came through, "Does he know?"
"I didn't tell him," she replied.
Wesley took a deep breath, "I'll send Julian and a few people to The Capital to take care of you."
"No, you can't." She quickly explained, "the Howard family doesn't know I'm pregnant, but Ilse already suspects. If you send people over, whether your little niece or nephew can be born safely is uncertain."
Wesley pondered during the conversation, seemingly sensing something, and stopped asking about her and Evander, "I don't feel comfortable with you alone in The Capital."
"I have someone capable by my side. Don't worry. Oh, and tell Dad not to worry about me."
After ending the call, Charlotte looked again at the news page on her tablet, lost in thought.
...
Natalie drove Easter near her apartment and stopped the car, reminding her, "Miss Sterling, three days should be enough, right? I hope you'll consider carefully."
Easter got out of the car and watched Natalie drive away.
She clutched her purse tightly, bit her lip, and turned to enter the residential area.
Back in her apartment, as she opened the door, she saw Jonathan sitting on the sofa inside. He was looking at his phone screen, seemingly reading the morning's news.
Easter was slightly nervous and walked over cautiously, "Mr. Pembroke..."
"Did he touch you?" Jonathan didn't look up, swiping down the screen with his finger.
Easter was silent for a few seconds, then shook her head, "No..."
She knew better than anyone what had happened last night...
"It seems he was already on guard. No matter. With this news, it's enough." Jonathan's gaze hardened. He turned off his phone, stood up, and walked towards her.
Easter kept her face lowered. She was still wearing the same cheongsam from last night, but her hair was no longer pinned up, falling loose around her shoulders, and her makeup had long been removed.
This face, these features, were too plain. Without the bright makeup, she didn't look much like her at all.
Jonathan used his hand to lift her chin. She kept her eyes downcast, not daring to look at him.
