Renard cleared his throat and spoke first in a deliberately relaxed tone. "Josie, you're back. Did you just finish dinner? Are you tired?"
Daisy immediately stood up and hurried to her. She held Josie's hand affectionately and looked her over, though she couldn't hide her real thoughts. "We were just chatting. You're not young anymore. You should start thinking seriously about your love life."
Josie paused inside. She had guessed they would say this.
She pulled her hand back and stepped away, looking at the three of them cautiously. "Just chatting? You mean chatting about all those 'excellent gentlemen'?"
She copied the tone she heard earlier and added, "Dad, Mom, Jamal, can you stop arranging these things for me? I know what I'm doing."
Jamal, standing nearby, replied with a grin, "Josie, how long have you been single? Dad and Mom just care about you. They're worried you'll get hurt out there alone. We're helping you filter options. More choices are always better."
He even gave Renard and Daisy a look.
Renard quickly nodded. "Jamal is right! We're only suggesting, not forcing you.
"The guys we mentioned all have good conditions. Meeting once won't hurt. Think of it as making a new friend. More friends are good, right?"
Josie felt helpless. They always said it was for her own good, and she was tired of hearing it.
She sighed and put her hands on her hips. "I really don't need these 'arrangements.' I want to decide my own love life."
Seeing her firm attitude, Daisy's smile faded and her tone became serious. "You say you want to decide, but you're still alone."
"Yeah," Jamal added, no longer joking. "Remember that guy from our class reunion? He's actually a good person.
"I heard he seems to like you too. Why not meet him once? Have a meal and chat. If it doesn't work, that's fine. What do you think?"
Looking at her family's hopeful yet stubborn eyes, Josie felt complicated emotions.
She knew they truly cared about her, but she wasn't interested in those men and didn't want to waste time on anyone.
There were many men in the world. If one didn't work, you could pick another. There was no need to focus on only one person.
But the key point was she really liked Harrison now.
If she didn't win over that proud Harrison, she would never give up.
After thinking about it, Josie came up with a very good idea.
"Oh right—Dad, Mom, Jamal, you don't need to worry so much. I actually already have someone I like."
