Emery went crazy, stabbing Gianna over and over again without stopping.
"You ungrateful monster! You lied to my sons and me, toyed with us like we were fools, and now you dare try to kill my daughter!
"There is no way I'm giving you another chance to hurt her. Go to hell! Just die already!
"As long as you're dead, no one will ever dare lay a hand on my daughter again!"
In that moment, Emery looked completely out of her mind, plunging the knife into her five or six times in a row.
She stared at her own blood-soaked hands and at the body collapsed in a pool of red, and she didn't feel even a flicker of cruelty or regret.
One thought kept echoing in her head. Kill her. As long as she's dead, your daughter will finally be safe. You'll have avenged yourself and your sons.
So Emery showed no mercy whatsoever. If anything, a twisted sense of release spread through her, like something that had been suffocating her for years had finally burst free.
Up until her final breath, Gianna's bloodshot eyes remained wide open, her mouth hanging open, unable to force out a single word.
She had probably never imagined that her end would come so suddenly, so pathetically.
She had planned to kill Amelia first, then flee the country, sell off all her gold and jewels, and live comfortably overseas.
Even if she were eventually caught, she had prepared herself for that possibility.
But she never, not in her wildest imagination, thought it would end like this.
She didn't even get the chance to fight back before Emery's sudden frenzy knocked her to the cold floor.
In those crimson eyes, beyond the unbearable pain, there was overwhelming disbelief and deep, bitter unwillingness.
She had been killed by the very adoptive mother who once doted on her the most.
The other person who was utterly shocked was Amelia, whose consciousness was fading.
She had thought she was dead for sure, and she had even imagined Jeremy crashing in from nowhere to save her.
But she never expected the one who saved her would be her own mother.
Not only had she saved her—she had stabbed someone to death in a frenzy.
Amelia thought Emery had acted too impulsively. In a society ruled by law, killing meant paying with your life.
To do something like that so openly … she had ruined her own future.
What were they supposed to do now?
Amelia struggled to stay conscious, trying to sit up.
But her whole body was weak and heavy, and she couldn't move.
Before she blacked out completely, she vaguely heard voices coming from all directions.
"Oh, my God! Someone's been killed! There's been a murder!"
A server who had just walked in saw the scene and nearly collapsed to the floor in fright.
