Crowned by the Man They Feared (Amelia and Jeremy) novel Chapter 704

"Aren't you going to see me in?" Josie asked.

"I just did. You're home."

"This is only the driveway. Since when does getting someone home not include walking them to the front door?"

Josie pressed her point, refusing to let him off the hook. "Aren't you afraid someone will jump out and snatch me again, just like last time?"

"The organization that wanted you has been dismantled," Harrison said, his voice level. "You're perfectly safe." It was the only reason he had finally allowed himself to relax.

"You never know. There could be other bad guys out there. My parents are away on vacation, my brother is out of town on business, and I'm all alone in that big house."

Josie reached out, her slender fingers tracing slow, deliberate circles on his chest. It was a silent, unmistakable invitation.

Harrison's body stiffened almost imperceptibly. He looked down at her face, inches from his own. The scent of her sweet perfume mixed with the faint haze of alcohol was intoxicating.

"The security in this complex is top tier," he said, his voice rasping slightly. "There are cameras everywhere. Nothing is going to happen, okay?"

Josie didn't let his stoicism discourage her. She leaned in closer until she was nearly pressed against him, her voice dropping to a low, suggestive whisper.

"But I'm scared to be alone. I still have nightmares about being kidnapped. You'd really leave a helpless woman to face an empty house all by herself?" She gave his sleeve a gentle tug, her eyes wide and pleading like a kitten looking for a treat.

Before Harrison could respond, the driver suddenly spoke up from the front seat. "Actually, I just remembered I have an emergency. I have to head out. Why don't you stay here with the lady for a bit?"

Harrison stared at the back of the driver's head in stunned silence.

The driver had heard enough. He couldn't believe this guy was remaining unmoved by such a blatant invitation from such a beautiful woman. It was practically a crime. He didn't even care about the fare at this point; he was determined to give the lady an assist.

The driver hopped out of the car and disappeared into the night. As the door clicked shut, Josie caught his eye and gave him a subtle thumbs up. She made a mental note to call this specific service again.

With the driver gone, Harrison had run out of excuses. He parked the car in her garage and followed her inside.

She tried several times, but he remained as still as a statue. Josie felt a sharp sting of defeat. Was I really that unattractive to him? Was my charm simply not enough to move him?
