"I’m Captain Gu, leader of the 3rd Company under the 7th Division," Captain Gu introduced himself shortly after making his appearance.
"Yuan," Yuan responded with a simple, even lackluster introduction.
"Before we begin, I have something to tell you. A proposal of sorts," Captain Gu suddenly said.
"I’m not interested," Yuan rejected before even hearing it.
Knowing that the individual before him bore the surname ’Gu’, Yuan already knew that it was going to be some nonsense.
Captain Gu immediately frowned and said, "You’re arrogant, but I don’t blame you. I would be too if I had your talents. However, no matter how talented you are, you won’t last long in the military with that attitude, especially toward those with a higher rank than you."
"Anyway, you will listen to me regardless of whether you want to or not, as what I am about to say comes from a position way higher than mine."
"If you’re going to say it, hurry up and say it already," Yuan sighed.
"General Gu, who commands the Fifth to Eighth Division, has ordered you to join his division," said Captain Gu.
"That’s not possible, since I have already promised to join General Mei’s division," Yuan calmly replied, admitting that he’d already made a deal with her.
"Why aren’t they fighting? What are they talking about?"
A formation had surrounded the arena the moment Captain Gu entered the stage, so the spectators were not able to hear their conversation.
Yet, many of them could guess what it was about.
"Captain Gu’s probably trying to recruit him. There’s no way General Gu wouldn’t want a talented individual like him in his division, after all."
"Right. He’s been anxious to find someone who can rival the monster under General Mei’s division."
"I don’t blame him. The power dynamic in the military has shifted greatly since her appearance."
"What did General Mei promise you?" Captain Gu inquired before adding, "Whatever she promised you, General Gu can double—even triple!"
"General Mei promised me her daughter," Yuan lied with a straight face.
"..."
His unexpected response left Captain Gu speechless, with a dumbfounded expression on his square face.
"Just kidding," Yuan said a moment later.
"YOU!"
Feeling like he’d just been mocked, Captain Gu’s face quickly turned beet red.
Yuan continued, "Regardless of what she promised me, it won’t change the fact that I am under a contract with her."
Captain Gu quickly controlled his emotions and replied, "So what if you are under contract? There are ways to circumvent it depending on the details. For example, if you only promised to join her division, you can simply join her division and leave immediately afterward."
"Even if you can’t, it’s not like you will die by breaking the contract, and General Gu will compensate you and more for your troubles. There is literally no disadvantage to joining him."
"..."
Yuan fell silent for a moment before asking, "Why are you so desperate to recruit me?"
"What?" Captain Gu frowned.
"You heard me. Your desperation is so obvious and pitiful..." Yuan shook his head.
"Anyway, no matter what you offer me, I have no intention of joining your division."
