Jagger’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. He shoved his way through the crowd to get to Renee, rubbing his hands together in excitement.

He said, Can you let me see those cores? I’ve never even seen that many in my whole life.

Renee chuckled. If I took out all the cores, this whole room wouldn’t be enough to hold them. Aren’t you worried other powered humans might try to rob us?

Jagger immediately puffed out his chest and glared, saying loudly, I’m a robber myself. Who dares come and try to rob me?

As he spoke, he rolled up his sleeves, ready to throw down, but his buddies quickly held him back.

Jagger, we’re not robbers anymore. We’re good people now. We can’t just go around killing people.” The guy who stopped him was slim and small, with a sharp, shrewd look on his face.

Every time Jagger was about to throw down, it was always this guy who stepped in, tirelessly trying to talk him out of it.

Even though these thirtysomething robbers had joined Blaze Haven, Jagger was still their boss in their hearts.

They’d stuck with him since the start of the apocalypse, brothers who’d risked their lives together. Nobody else could just waltz in and take his place.

Chloe didn’t care about any of that. As long as they kept their noses clean and followed orders, she was fine with it.

After the apocalypse, the only thing people cared about was staying alive.

As long as everyone had what they needed and life was decent, no one would even think about stealing or hurting others.

Jagger kicked the guy across the room. Get lost, I—

Just then, Phantom came around the corner, carrying a box of milk.

She was dressed in a spotless white dress, her eyes lowered, looking pure and innocent.

Jagger swallowed the curse he was about to blurt out.

He said, Babe, are you hungry? I just took down a huge mutant beast outside and saved the beast’s blood for you.

With that, he cheerfully pulled Phantom along and left.

Chloe rubbed her forehead, thinking, Looks like Jagger is really in love with her. Poor girl. She’s still a zombie. I don’t know if she’ll ever turn human in the future!

The next day, top fighters from all over the world gathered at Ebony Base, with helicopters buzzing overhead.

It was a massive operation, with over a thousand Level 6 powered humans present.

Everyone moved out in force, making their way to Lakeside.

However, the island was already gone, leaving only the bloodred sea, its color still lingering, untouched.

Noah kept his face icy as he listened to his team’s updates.

Some waterpowered humans dove in to investigate, but came up emptyhanded.

That Leviathan has to be somewhere down there. We need to finish it off while it’s still hurt, or humanity will never know peace, someone said.

Exactly. That island in Lakeside was supposed to have a massive energy source. Now it’s sunk to the bottom. If the Leviathan is down there, it won’t be long before we’re no match for him, another added.

The thing was that the ocean floor was insanely dangerous. Even the best Level 6 waterpowered humans wouldn’t dare go down.

No one was willing to risk their necks exploring the unknown.

In the end, everyone left with nothing gained.

Chloe felt totally relaxed because the huge energy stone was safely lying on a barren mountain inside her spiritual space, forming an energy flow.

No matter how tough the Leviathan was, without the energy stone feeding it, it wouldn’t level up nearly as fast.

Chloe knew it was just a matter of time before she closed the gap.

She was listening to the people up ahead talking when someone nudged her arm. She turned and met a pair of gloomy eyes.

It was Harvey, who had a resemblance to Noah, tall and handsome, but he always gave off this dark, moody energy, like some venomous snake lurking in the shadows for ages.

He flashed Chloe a smile and ran a hand through his hair, trying to look cool.

Hey, I’m Harvey,he said.

Chloe instinctively stepped back, alarms ringing in her mind.

She could tell Harvey was trouble. Not wanting to piss him off, she gave him a fake smile. Chloe, she said.

Harvey squinted. I heard Blaze Haven is back in business.

He pulled a biscuit from his pocket and gave it a sniff.

“No, It’s not true, Chloe replied and flashed him a polite smile.

She knew the news about the base restarting production was impossible to hide, but she wasn’t about to admit it, no matter what Harvey said.

Chloe, why don’t we make a deal?Harvey said.

As Chloe walked away with the group, she replied, Sorry. Blaze Haven is just a nobody. We’re not in your league to do business with someone like you.

She’d already turned him down, but Harvey just wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept trailing after her.

Harvey,” Noah called out suddenly.

Harvey ran his tongue over his lips. What can I do for you?

His voice sounded polite, but the look on his face was anything but.

Noah stepped in front of Chloe, blocking her from Harvey. Don’t even think about it. If you try, you’ll regret it.”

Harvey shrugged, a sly grin on his face. She’s single, so it’s a fair game for anyone. Noah, are you gonna throw your weight around just because you’re in charge?

Noah sneered. That’s exactly what I’m doing. And what are you gonna do about it?

Harvey cocked his head, clapping slowly. Alright, looks like I’ll have to give up then.

He turned and walked away.

Noah turned back to Chloe, his voice gentle. Harvey’s got a mean streak. He’s not someone you should get close to. Keep your distance, and don’t get caught up in his schemes.

Chloe nodded.

Once they were gone, Harvey glared daggers at them, his eyes twisted with jealousy and venom.

He whipped out his communicator and hissed, Is the poison in place?

A middleaged woman replied, cold and steady. Don’t worry, the slowacting poison has already been administered. He’ll be dead within ten days.”

This Leviathan hunt was a real headache, so everyone regrouped at Ebony Base to plot their next move.

Blaze Haven, led by Chloe, was just a small base, so none of the other bases took it seriously. The only thing that stuck in people’s minds was that its base chief was a gorgeous young woman.

She rented a big stall right on the main street of Ebony Base, pulled up with her Base Truck, and set up shop to sell supplies.

Most of what she offered was mutant beast meat, along with drinking water and rye.

Jagger and his crew were having the time of their lives, grinning as they hustled around the stall.

They said to the customers, Come check it out, everyone. Fresh mutant beast meat here. It’s lean, tasty, and keeps you full. Only one Level 4 core per pound.

He was nothing like the fierce robber he used to be. Now he looked like a butcher just trying to make a living.

Chloe lounged under a sun umbrella, munching on snacks with total case. She had a few bottles of chilled drinks and half a watermelon by her side, enjoying every bite like she was living the good life.

The crowd started buzzing with excitement.

Someone eagerly rubbed their hands and stepped up. Hey, are you selling that watermelon?

Chloe’s eyes shot open, and she flashed a big grin, thinking, Well, here’s a new customer

Yeah, it’s for sale, but it’ll cost you a Level 6 core for a watermelon,Chloe replied

Everyone gasped. The guy looked torn, wanting to walk away, but just couldn’t let it go.
