Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 755

Ariel blinked a few times. Then, she remembered—her surgery had been rescheduled for tomorrow due to adjustments Liam had made to her treatment plan.

Coincidentally, it fell during the same period Jayson was injured and was still showing little improvement in his recovery.

Liam stepped closer and observed Jayson's condition. He had already been briefed on the severity of Jayson's injuries before arriving.

Jayson had suffered extensive trauma. Several broken ribs had punctured his lungs, and his recovery would require a long period of rest and careful monitoring.

Liam lowered his gaze to Ariel. Her hand was in a cast, and her face was pale as a sheet—likely due to a recent attack. Her cheeks were flushed from fever, and her hands, resting on the bed, trembled slightly. She hadn't eaten.

"You haven't had anything to eat?" Liam asked.

Ariel recalled she hadn't had time to eat. She'd rushed straight to Bluum Tower. Now, she felt drained and lightheaded.

Liam didn't press further. He quietly pulled a bottle of warm milk from his pocket and placed it beside her hand.

"Your top priority now is rest. We can't afford any complications that might jeopardize tomorrow's surgery."

Ariel knew her condition had worsened. Ever since the abortion, she had felt her health deteriorating. Though she would've preferred to postpone the surgery until Jayson was stable, she couldn't delay it any longer.

Even if Jayson regained consciousness, seeing her in such poor condition would only worry him more.

"Alright, I understand. Please proceed with the preparations. We'll go ahead with the surgery tomorrow," Ariel said with a sigh.

She had no choice but to face it head-on, even though she had no idea how things would turn out.

Liam noticed she had no intention of leaving Jayson's ward. He didn't comment; he understood. "Take care of yourself. You'll need to fast for at least 24 hours before surgery. No food after noon today. This afternoon, the nurse will start you on an antibiotic drip."

Ariel expressed her gratitude. "Thank you."

Evelyn entered the ward and saw Jayson—still wearing his oxygen mask—tilting his head to look at Ariel on the couch. She couldn't tell what he was thinking, but his eyes held a tenderness she hadn't seen before.

Something tugged at Evelyn's heart.

She had given birth to Jayson and watched him grow. This was the first time she'd seen that kind of expression on his face.

"How did you end up like this?" Evelyn murmured, snapping out of her thoughts. She walked over to the bed, keeping her voice low so as not to wake Ariel.

Her expression turned grim as she took in his weakened state.

Jayson removed the oxygen mask, finding it stifling. "I'm fine. This won't kill me."

"You call this fine?" Evelyn said, exasperated. She wanted to scold him but held back, worried about his condition. "I'm calling the doctor to check on you."
