Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 786

Ariel raised an eyebrow. "They don't know I was sick or about the surgery. This mission is really important. I can't refuse."

She needed to cooperate with the government when necessary.

Janice knew that Ariel's sense of responsibility was far too strong.

After helping Ariel settle, Janice looked at the man's jacket lying on her bed. It was the one Wade had tossed to her earlier.

On the way over, she had felt the sun was too strong. Wade had given her his jacket to shield her from it.

After some thought, Janice said, "I'll go return his jacket. You should take a nap."

Before Ariel could even respond, Janice had already dashed off.

Watching Janice's retreating figure, Ariel could tell that she was brimming with anticipation. After all, she had admired Wade since childhood. That feeling still lingered.

The accommodation for Wade and the others wasn't far from their place.

When Janice arrived with the jacket, she was in a good mood. Wade giving her the jacket earlier had made her feel cared for.

Two men shared a room here.

When Janice reached the doorway, she could hear voices from inside.

Wade was talking. He was normally so cold and stern, but he sounded unusually patient at this moment. "Don't worry. We arrived safely, and the place is decent."

Alicia's voice came through the speaker. "I don't believe it. It must be tough there. Show me your room."

Wade complied.

Bradley, who was sharing a room with Wade, teased, "What are you doing? Making sure he's not seeing anyone else?"

Alicia didn't feel embarrassed at all. She laughed openly. "I'm just worried Wade and you guys might be uncomfortable."

Bradley nudged Wade. "Having a sister so thoughtful and sweet is such a comfort. Wade, you're living far too well."

Wade shot him a sideways glance. "What are you talking about?"

"Whoa, strict as ever," Bradley teased again with a knowing smirk.

Alicia didn't elaborate, only smiled at Wade. "Is he? Wade, if I were seeing someone, how would you take it?"

Wade put down the shirt he was holding and met her eyes calmly. "Go to sleep."

He didn't answer directly, but Alicia's smile widened. "Alright, I won't bother you. You guys rest early too."

She didn't push it.

The call ended.

Bradley clicked his tongue as he walked toward the door. "If Alicia were really seeing someone, would you just let her? I don't…"

His words cut off abruptly when he noticed Janice standing at the doorway.

Wade looked over as well. When his eyes met Janice's, he remained completely calm.
