Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 802

Ariel turned calmly and faced Samson's unreadable expression. He stood a few steps away, watching her with a thoughtful look.

"I can't sleep with no word from Jayson," she said, not answering directly but choosing instead a safe response.

Samson had one hand in his pocket. His eyes hinted at a smile, though it was hard to make out clearly. "I thought you didn't trust me and wanted to leave."

Those words sent an inexplicable shiver down Ariel's spine.

She met his gaze. "Where would I go in the middle of the night in a foreign country?"

Samson shrugged. "Fair enough. It's really chaotic here right now."

Ariel had already secretly slipped her phone into her pocket and walked slowly toward the villa. "How are my colleagues doing?"

"They're fine. I plan to arrange their trip home tomorrow," Samson replied easily, like it was a done deal.

Ariel's guard with him was higher than anything.

She used to think he was carefree and straightforward with everyone. But after everything that had happened, she believed Samson was far more dangerous than he let on.

She walked toward the villa as if nothing were wrong.

Samson fell into step beside her. He hadn't given it much thought before. But now, as they walked together in silence, he found it unexpectedly pleasant.

When they reached the door, Ariel looked at him. "How long do you plan to stay here?"

Samson liked chatting with her. He raised an eyebrow. "Depends on my work. But I think this place is really unstable now. How about I take you home tomorrow?"

Ariel's eyes dimmed. "Mr. Pryce, you should know that my husband is still missing. Do you think it's right for me to go home now?"

When she said the word "husband", Samson's smile faded ever so slightly.

A bad feeling rose in Ariel at once.

Samson wouldn't let her leave and wanted her to return home. Did he really not know what had happened to Jayson?

"This is a personal matter, as well as one between my husband and me. I won't leave him behind. I appreciate your kindness, but please just let me leave tomorrow. I won't take up any more of your time."

Samson saw through Ariel's calm determination. It was a steadfast resolve for Jayson.

How glaring.

"Is he that important?" he asked without moving, simply looking at her.

Ariel answered calmly, "Yes."

Samson suddenly smirked. He stood up, then bent down to look at her. His eyes carried a hint of cruelty. "What if I told you that he's most likely dead?"
