Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 219

I'm already dragging them up. "Make sure those two don't kill each other, Ethel." I look at the beta at the table. "And make sure Luca doesn't eat the house."

"Y-Yes, Luna." Ethel pauses. "Wait... Why me?" he screams.

Good man.

Once we make it to my room, I leave the door open, turning to my new "roommates."

"Why did you interrupt me?" Megan asks. "I was making a breakthrough with that boy."

"Were you?" I ask.

She nods.

Just then, we hear Ethel yelling at Luca downstairs about not touching something. I give her a look.

She stays quiet. "A slow breakthrough of course."

Axel doesn't waste anymore time getting to work. He spreads out his tools and the parts he needs. Carlie starts grabbing the way kids do. I go to stop him, but Axel's already got it. He moves Charlie back enough to explain stuff to him without him hurting himself.

But after every piece, Charlie's at it again. "What's that?" he asks Axel, trying to touch something else.

"What's that?"

"What's that?"

"What's that?"

Every time Axel moves him, Charlie moves back even more determined. Every time Axel tells him, "That's not safe to touch," Charlie tries to touch it ten times. I expect Axel to lose his mind, or at least his cool, but he stays patient.

He only asks me to take Charlie when he starts drilling. "Just in case," he says. "I don't want any wandering hands," he chuckles, staring at the little bundle of "joy" (read: trouble) bouncing at his side.

I nod. I sit on the bed with Charlie, holding him securely in my lap. He sighs, telling me I've ruined his fun, but he stays still for the most part. Megan sits with her legs folded beside me.

She looks at me from the corner of her eyes. "So... What happened to your window?"

"Huh?" I pretend like the sound of the drill is so loud, buying myself time.

"Your window?" She points at it.

I shrug, casually. "It was messed up when we got the house." I give myself a mental high five. Great answer.

She doesn't look convinced. "And your boyfriend?"

I raise an eyebrow.

"Carson," she says. "Did you forget about him already?"

I glare at her. "I didn't forget about him. I just don't know what you're asking about him for."

He still looks confused.

Her mouth falls open. "What kind of man are you? So comfortable with it."

He cocks his head back. "What do you mean? I'm just trying to-"

"I misjudged you." She can't bear to look at him.

"But-" he starts.

"We're over," she says.

Ethel furrows his brow, but he and Luca ultimately end up sitting outside the door, quite literally in the doghouse. Every few minutes, Ethel has to remind Luca not to claw the carpets before Megan gives them another speech on what it means to be a "gentleman."

Once the window's fixed, Axel takes Charlie to show him how the screen part works. It looks a whole lot better, so I'm really happy, but I just wonder if Axel plans on leaving right away like he said he would. I don't want him to, but I don't wanna start another fight by trying to get him to stay.

But I don't want to start another argument by letting him go.

Ugh. But how can I ask him to stay with my family here, thinking I'm only dating Carson? I should've just... it's crazy, but I should've just said I was dating all of them. Rip off the bandage in one go and be done with it instead of walking on eggshells, like this.

Now Axel only loves Charlie. Not me. I frown.

In the midst of this, Michael and Onai reappear. I look at them expectantly, hoping to hear some kind of good news in all of this, but Michael's still staring at his book, uninterestedly. I look at Onai, but he avoids eye contact.
