"Really?" She frowns. "But Nurse Janice is so cool. She could probably help you with understanding the brothers a lot better.."
"Really? Why?" I ask.
She shrugs. "Because she's got an incomplete imprint bond herself. Like the brothers."
I look at her confused.
She elaborates. "The person Nurse Janice imprinted on didn't imprint back on her."
My mouth falls open. I think back to the pictures in Suzie's house. The happy family portraits. Mr. Olcan.
"I mean, things aren't really working out for her," Krys says. "But she could still probably understand where the brothers are coming from. Besides." She tells a few people to get the posture together. "She gets what it's like to not have your feelings returned by your imprint in the same way." Her face falls. "At least, maybe that's what she's feeling."
"What she's feeling?" I ask.
Krys snaps her head towards me. "I mean." She laughs nervously, scratching the back of her neck. "What the brothers are feeling I mean."
Talk about projection at their finest. I give her a flat look. "Krys."
"Yeah?" she asks.
"I don't know why you don't know this but." I look into her eyes. "Brittany likes you a lot. Romantically. It's kind of obvious."
She gasps, holding her heart. It's like I'd just spoken the craziest theory ever. The Earth is round. What? "No she doesn't," she says.
I glare at her. "Yes, she does. And you like her too, so just tell her already."
She covers her face, blushing. Her kinky-curly hair follows the motion. "I said she doesn't, so stop it."
Stop it, she says. I roll my eyes. "You wanna make a deal?" I offer.
She peeks through her hands. "... What kind of deal?"
I have to play this right. "I'll ask Brittany how she feels."
"No," Krys says.
"Listen to me." I give her a look. "I'll do it without revealing how you feel about her."
Krys face lights up.
"If," I add.
Her face falls. "If?"
"Yes, if you help me talk to a guy about my problem."
She furrows her brow. "But I don't know any other guys."
"Sure you do," I say. "For example." I pause, acting like I'm thinking. "Oh! What about that one you introduced me to on tour last time?"
"Who?" she asks.
Ugh. Work with me Krys. I point at the railing. "He jumped down there and modeled the uniform for you."
I freeze. "Er..." I make eye contact with the guy I recognize as Dante.
"Luna?" There's a question in his voice. He bows before sitting upright. His friends follow suit, except one guy with a buzzcut who stares at me like I've got two heads. I know I told Krys to be discreet, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind.
She could've at least told him I was coming!
I stare at Dante and his friends. They stare back at me, whispering amongst themselves.
"He can't ask that," a guy with a blue top knot says.
A girl with a frohawk scoffs. "Why not? He said he would if he ever met her-"
"Shut it already," the guy with the buzzcut growls. He throws himself from his seat, looking into my eyes. "I know what I said... I'll do it."
His friends jab each other, wide-eyed, watching him walk towards me. The blue-haired guy smacks his forehead. Dante shakes his head.
"I've got a question for you, Luna," buzzcut says cooly, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Prepare yourself."
Frohawk and the other girl look at each other. What's about to come out of his mouth?
He stops two feet away from me, narrowing his eyes. "Sup. I'm Bob."
I raise an eyebrow... What? "Bob?"
"Yup." He smirks, but when he sees the confusion written all over my face, he says, "I'm in your gym class."
