Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 321

"You wouldn't be wasting time if you'd let me see the kid," Rey mutters.

"Why?" I ask. Why can't he just tell us what he plans to do now?

"People are connected to mindlink for different reasons. You want me to just look at her and know what to do?" Rey scoffs. "If you went to the doctor and they didn't listen to a single symptom you had, they just took one look at you and wrote a prescription, would you trust them?" He looks me up and down. "You look like you would."

I cock my head back.

"How about you just assume everything's normal for Fei," Bri says. "What would you recommend for us to do then?"

Rey slaps the table. "Bring one of her parents here and I'll gut them myself for you."

My eyes fly open.

Shen gasps. This time Ethel really does cover Fei's ears.

"Yup." Rey nods. He rubs his fingers against the table, tracing the large cracks and marks I'm only now seeing. There are places where the vines break. Places that match a human body a little too well. "Children get mindlink from their parents. If you want to break hers, one of her parents has to be sacrificed. Then the murder weapon can be used to break the link."

We all look at each other.

Rey pauses. "... She wouldn't happen to be an orphan, would she?"

My blood runs cold.

"And if she is?" Onai asks.

"Then I'm afraid there's not much I can do." He shrugs. "The potion requires a few things. The blood of the Silvermoon luna. The blood of the Silvermoon Pack. The blood of the member joining. But none of it'll work without the weapon-preferably still tarnished from the slaughter."

"Well, then we might as well leave like Mia said," Bri says. "Thanks for nothing." She leads the way back to the front of the house. Shen and Suzie follow, quickly. Ethel and Krys next. Michael nudges both mine and Onai's arms, telling us to come on.

Onai and I exchange a look. We both wince.

"... Shen," I call out to her hesitantly.

She pauses a distance away-everyone does. "Yes?"

"You said..." I clear my throat. "... Fei's father passed away during one of Bloodmoon's attacks, right?"

She hesitates, then she nods.

Onai and I exchange another look. The wolf I pepper sprayed in the woods. The wolf he... It couldn't be, right? What are the chances?

"Am I missing something?" Rey asks.

Onai looks at him. "We think we have the murder weapon."

Everyone looks at him.

"What do you mean...?" Ethel asks.

I can't look in Shen's direction. I know what we did was self-defense, but still...

Fei's big eyes staring at me as I confess the murder of her father...

I swallow the lump in my throat. "If we're not 100% sure if it was... her father."

Shen's eyes widen. Michael's eyes widen. I never told him exactly why Onai came into our house bloodied and bruised.

"Could you still make the potion?" Onai finishes for me.

"Shut up," I say.

Rey takes a step back.

I didn't realize I took such a forceful step forward. "Shut. Up." He opens his mouth, but I shout it again. "Shut the hell up." I want to strangle him. I want his tongue sacrificed to the potion. I want him to never speak again.

He narrows his eyes, walking cautiously around me like I'm the animal. "I'm going to go find the wrench, if that's okay with you, Luna?" Once he's behind me and walking towards the house, he mutters, "Crazy black lady."

My eye twitches.

"Can I take Fei to the car for this part?" Shen asks.

"Of course." I nod. Then I look at Onai. "Is it alright if they use your car?"

He nods. Michael hands the keys over to Krys. She leads Shen with a very frightened Fei back to the car. But when Ethel doesn't follow Shen, she stops.

"Ethel?" Shen asks.

He gestures towards Onai.

Onai waves him off. "I'm fine. Go."

"Are you sure?" Ethel asks.

Onai nods.

"But." Ethel looks at the table. "Are you sure you don't want to hold my hand or something? You'll break Michael's."
