Chapter 11 Racing and Surprises
After asking her question, Halle just grunted and hung up.
Ayla found her reaction odd. “Who was it?”

“He didn’t say. Just that he wants to meet me in person.” Halle looked puzzled, even a little annoyed.
“What on earth? Is he trying to show off? Won’t even tell me his senior name?”
Ayla thought about it. “Maybe he wants to surprise you.”
“Fine, I’ll take it that way. I hope that senior is Ayla 2.0. That would be a real surprise. Otherwise, that senior is just pretending to be important.”
Ayla didn’t know how to respond.
Halle restarted the engine and reminded, “Don’t forget our plans for Saturday.”
Ayla glanced at the steering wheel and suddenly felt her fingers itch. It had been a long time since she’d watched a race.
In the days that followed, Ayla called Emmett every day to ask about Kaleb’s health.
From what Emmett said, Kaleb was a hopeless workaholic.
Even though he’d just been sick, the moment their company landed the investment, he threw himself back into work like nothing had happened.
Ayla worried he would collapse under the pressure. She thought about calling him herself, but Kaleb had blocked her number.
With her hacking skills, she could get through to him in a second. But that would only make their already strained sibling relationship worse.
So she gave up.
She decided she’d visit him in person when she had time.
Saturday came. Ayla and Halle had planned to watch a car race together. Ayla got ready to head
out.
Halle had promised to pick her up, but something came up, so Ayla had to drive herself.

Before the divorce, she’d used one of Troy’s cars. Yesterday, she finally bought a white Range Rover for herself.
The map said it would take an hour and a half.
But with her sharp driving skills and without breaking a single speed limit, she made it in just one hour.
She went straight to the VIP box Halle had booked.
The stands were already filling with people. The VIP section wasn’t as crowded, but there were still plenty of guests.
Ayla sidestepped a staff member who almost bumped into her and kept walking.
She followed the numbers on the doors; just a few more steps to hers.
Up ahead, one box door was open. Those inside were having a conversation. She had no reason to stop just pass by.
But then she caught a name she knew.
“Yeah, my game company’s called RuneLogic.”
RuneLogic?
That’s Kaleb’s rival company.
What are the odds for me to run into them here?
Ayla froze in her tracks.
“I know you only invested because of my sister. I don’t like admitting it, but for the first time, I’m glad Skyla is my sister. Even the times I got smacked as a kid feel worth it now.”
Ayla froze.
From his tone, she already knew who it was.
The voice belonged to Zane Summer–Skyla’s younger brother and Aunt Juliet’s stepson.
Aunt Juliet had once told her Zane was the same age as Kaleb.
“If it wasn’t for you, Mr. Winston, our company never could’ve attracted so much talent. Oh, by the way, can I just call you Troy?” Zane’s voice was eager, filled with gratitude.

As expected, Troy’s voice followed. “You’re Skyla’s brother, so you’re my brother too. No need to be so formal.”
Zane lit up. “Thanks, Troy!”
Troy’s tone was warm, almost gentle. “Work hard, young man.”
Ayla could hardly believe what she was hearing. Troy rarely encouraged young people–except
his sister.
The only reason he showed Zane such kindness was because he was Skyla’s brother.
Simple as that.
Troy always knew Ayla had a brother. But in three years of marriage, he had never asked a single thing about Kaleb. He hadn’t even tried to meet her family. Even if Kaleb stood right in front of him, Troy wouldn’t recognize him.
That was the difference between what mattered and what didn’t.
If it had been before, Ayla would have been crushed for days.
But now she was divorced. She had let go of Troy, no longer expecting anything from him.
If she didn’t care, she couldn’t be hurt too badly.
Still, it stung. The only good thing was that Ayla had learned to swallow that pain fast.
Zane, on the other hand, was thrilled to have Troy’s attention. Troy was one of the top figures in Trensea, the kind of man everyone wanted to get close to. Zane wasn’t about to waste the chance. “Skyla’s about to race, Troy. You can watch from here. I picked this room myself–the view is the best.”
That explained everything. For years, Troy had shown no interest in racing. Ayla had wondered why he even came.
Now she knew.
She hadn’t expected Skyla to be racing.
Troy answered calmly, “Alright. I just need to make a quick call.”
Halle’s room was further up the hall. Ayla planned to wait until Troy and Zane closed their door before heading that way.

But just then, she heard the sound of a door opening. Troy was stepping out to make his call.
There was only one hallway. Ayla had no choice–she quickly backed away.
