Renee had met Troy a few times. He and Draven were the same type–strong aura, cold, hard to approach. They were like those young but legendary college professors no one dared to offend.

If a student slapped a professor like that, everyone would freak out. Just imagining it was scary.

But Ayla actually slapped him. It was unreal.

Bria was shocked, too. Troy spoiled her, but he was still her older brother, and he was the head of the Winston Group. There was no way she would dare slap him.

And Ayla was only three years older than Bria. She was young too, always acting timid around Troy. But now she dared to hit him?

“Renee, what am I supposed to do now?” Bria panicked. “Ayla’s not even scared of Troy anymore. Why would she be scared of me? And now Draven is backing her up!”

Renee sighed. “Well … yeah. Either Ayla has lost her mind, or she really doesn’t care about anything anymore.”

People like that were the hardest to deal with. No weaknesses. Nothing to use against them.

Bria gulped down a big drink. “I can’t let this go!”

Renee wanted to tell her to drop it, but Bria had been slapped twice and had wine thrown at her. With her personality, she would never let Ayla off the hook.

But Renee also knew… she probably wasn’t a match for Ayla.

Her gut told her so.

On Troy’s side, Max arrived just as Troy finished a call with Bria.

Troy kept replaying her last sentence in his head.

Ayla was with Draven.

What are they doing at a bar? Drinking together?

Do they hang out in private like normal friends?

How did Ayla and Draven even become close?

“None of your business.”

Max didn’t get mad. He narrowed his eyes. “Is it because of Ayla?”

The moment he said it, Troy’s expression turned icy. This wasn’t one of his usual jokes. His eyes were sharp, and his voice was cold and strict. “Get out.”

Max raised his brows. He knew he had guessed right, so he didn’t push it. “Alright. I’ll stop bothering you.”

Now he was sure–Ayla and Troy had cut ties.

Good news for him.

When Max reached the door, he paused and looked back. “Brooding alone is bad for you. I’ll send Skyla to keep you company.”

He didn’t wait for Troy’s reaction and walked out.

Max got into his car. The driver waited for directions, but Max said nothing for a long time.

His eyes narrowed again. Then he grabbed his phone and called his assistant.

Half an hour later, Emmett dragged Kaleb to meet an investor.

Emmett already knew the big investor was Max. But Kaleb didn’t like Max, so Emmett hid the truth and tricked him into coming.

If Max was ready to invest hundreds of billions of dollars, Emmett refused to believe Kaleb would reject him.

So Emmett decided to act first, explain later.

Kaleb only knew they were going to meet some rich investor. But while they were on the way, he got a call from Ayla. She said she wanted to treat him to dinner.

He laughed.

He felt annoyed and unimpressed by Ayla’s “attempt to please him,” but he still gave her the address of the investor meeting.

Ayla worked as a secretary at Storm Group, a huge corporation. She often went with her boss to talk deals, so she knew business dinners better than he did.

Kaleb decided to bring Ayla along. She could talk to the investor for him. After that, he’d let her buy him dinner.

Emmett chuckled. “Nice. You and Ayla are getting closer”

Kaleb snorted “Please I’m just using her as free labor

Emmett rolled his eyes. “Stop acting tough.

Kaleb laughed. “She called me first, okay? I didn’t go looking for her. And since I happen to be going to a business dinner, we might as well go together. Makes sense.”

Emmett didn’t argue.

Back then, Kaleb never discussed company problems with Ayla. Now he was inviting her to business meetings. That was definitely him trying to get closer to Ayla.

And Emmett remembered something else. The day Kaleb went to fight Zane, Ayla held him back. Kaleb kept saying he’d knock her out, but in the end, he didn’t even touch her clothes.

All talk, but no bites.

Then Zane smashed a bottle toward Ayla’s head, and Kaleb immediately pulled her aside and used his arm to block the hit.

These days, whenever Emmett accidentally touched that injured arm, Kaleb would wince. It must’ve been a bad injury. So yes–Kaleb had tough bones and a tough mouth, but he never said a word about it.
