Kaleb froze for a moment. She must have seen how excited he was a minute ago.

He pretended nothing happened and pulled out his phone to search NewRealm Ventures.

He saw all of the successful deals and investments they had made. Their record was incredible.

Max hadn’t expected Ayla to be here. He heard Patrick mention her name and still chose to come.

“Don’t rush off. Even if we don’t work together, at least have some tea,” Max said calmly.

Kaleb hated the way Max looked at Ayla. The first time he saw them together, he sensed that Max looked at her like a flirt–calm on the outside, but not clean on the inside. No one else would notice, but Kaleb was also a man. He knew. Max didn’t come here because of the game. He came for Ayla.

Kaleb already hated Troy.

Max wasn’t any better.

“I don’t have time to drink anything with you,” Kaleb snapped.

Kaleb glared, feeling helpless for the first time.

Max was nothing like Troy. Troy could be pushed. Max couldn’t be pushed at all.

Ayla also wanted to know the truth, so she planned to step outside with him.

Max didn’t move. He just glanced at Patrick.

Patrick understood. He escorted Emmett and Kaleb out of the room. Kaleb didn’t want to go, but Ayla shoved him out.

Once the door closed, Ayla sat down and asked Max, “So what did you do to make Kaleb hate you?”

The last person Kaleb hated this much was Troy.

Max sat down and shook his head. “I honestly have no idea.”

Ayla sat across from him. She didn’t look relaxed like she did at the tennis court last time. Her eyes were sharp. “Why are you trying to get close to Kaleb?”

Max felt a tiny sting in his chest.

Last time, it took almost no effort to get through her guard.

Her change in attitude had only one cause–her complete break with Troy.

And since Max was Troy’s friend, she saw him as an enemy, too.
