“You still had the energy to yell at him? Why didn’t you just tell him to leave?”
Ayla was confused by his question.
She felt even more anxious. “Yelling at him made me feel better.”
“So you never dared to yell at him before?”
Ayla was left even more speechless by that question.
Draven’s expression darkened again, and he looked even more intimidating than before.
Ayla had no idea what to do. She thought, It’s really rare to see brothers who are on such bad terms. They practically feel sick just by being in the same room.
Ayla finally understood why Draven agreed to join her in annoying Troy.
It was because they really were disgusted with Troy.
But they couldn’t just keep standing there like this. Ayla forced herself to speak. “Mr. Storm, just wait until Monday.”
Draven went quiet for a few seconds, then asked in a low voice, “Have you really thought it through?”
Ayla replied eagerly, “Of course!”
“I’m not talking about the divorce.”
Draven’s expression was serious, his eyes locked on hers, and the way he looked at her made Ayla feel like she had to explain everything she was thinking. She froze for a second, then quickly said, “Is this about Winnie? You never forgave me for that.”
“If I didn’t bring it up, would you even remember? Are you planning to just let it slide like that?”
“That’s not it.” From yesterday to today, Luke and Troy kept making trouble for her. So much had happened, she was just exhausted. And on the plane, Draven had been in a strange mood, so she never found the right time to apologize.
Draven’s voice was cold. “So have you figured it out?”
Ayla answered, “I think I get it now.”
“Go ahead.”

“I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions like James. Just because you were close to another woman doesn’t mean you’re romantically interested in her. Mr. Storm, you’ve always upheld your moral values. You’d never get too close to a woman unless you meant it. If you liked someone, you’d admit it openly, because there’s nothing wrong with liking someone.
“Mr. Storm, did I get that right?”
Draven was silent for two seconds, then turned to open the door. He left without a word, shutting the door behind him, leaving Ayla standing in front of her own apartment, confused and lost.
Ayla stood there for half a minute before finally going inside to rest.
But her heart was still uneasy.
After working with Draven for a month, she thought she’d started to figure him out and could get along with him.
It turned out she’d been wrong.
She didn’t understand Draven at all. The way he had pressed her just now proved he was not an easy person to get along with.
She even thought of the time on the cruise, when Draven grabbed her wrist and pinned her against the wall … If he didn’t have such strong self–control, who knew what might have happened?
Anyway, Draven always gave off a dangerous, aggressive vibe. She never stood a chance against him.
The only reason things had gone smoothly so far was because Draven had chosen to tolerate her. It didn’t matter who his secretary was–he’d treat anyone the same way.
If you really can’t get along with someone, then there’s no point trying. Ayla figured she wouldn’t be Draven’s secretary forever, so she needed to consider whether this relationship was worth maintaining long–term.
With Draven’s status, there were plenty of reasons for Ayla to keep things smooth between them. Not to mention, he had always treated her well.
Since she couldn’t handle it alone, she thought she’d better ask for help.
Will was Draven’s assistant, and Herman was Storm Group’s vice president–neither was a good choice. After thinking it over, she thought of James. He was always getting on Draven’s nerves, so he’d know how to fix this.

With that in mind, Ayla called him.

James was in Zheron and was really surprised to get her call. “Ayla, what made you think to call me? Did you miss me? Want me to hop on a plane and come see you?”
Ayla replied, “No need for that. I just want your advice for something.”
James knew how smart Ayla was, so he was genuinely curious about what she might need help with. “You need my advice? You’re way smarter than I am, and I’m just a regular guy. But since you’ve asked, go ahead and tell me.”
Ayla thought, Yeah, right. There’s nothing regular about you.
“I made Mr. Storm mad. How do I fix it?”
James was just curious at first, but now he was excited. “What happened? What did I miss?”
Ever since Will said Draven wasn’t interested in Ayla, James had backed off trying to set them up. If Draven really didn’t care, he knew to leave it alone–otherwise, he’d just be making trouble for everyone.
Ayla briefly told him about the Winnie thing. “Honestly, I just copied your
words.”
James said, “Don’t blame me! Even when I gossip about him and some woman, I pick carefully. Like, I picked you.”
Ayla was speechless. “You sure did a good job at picking.”
“You know what you did wrong? But if you joke about Draven and Winnie, it’s different. I can tease him about his relationship with Winnie, and he wouldn’t mind. But if you joke about Draven and Winnie, it’s a different story.”
“I know.”
She was just Draven’s secretary–she wasn’t a childhood friend like James.
“No. You don’t understand at all.”
“Huh?”
“Because you matter more to him than me. If the woman I liked accused me of flirting with someone else, I’d be pissed. If I liked you and you thought I was some player, I’d be really upset. So of course he doesn’t want you to get the wrong idea.“.
