“You know this already,” Herman said. “There are tons of women who like Draven. Plenty of them are even more obsessed with him than you. If working hard could win him over, do you really think it would be your turn to try?”
Melody still looked stubborn and unwilling to give up.
The more he tried to talk sense into her, the more she refused to listen.
Herman’s voice cooled, turning sharp. “Let it go. If anyone can win Draven’s heart, it’s never because they worked harder. It’s only because Draven liked them from the start. He holds all the power. If you don’t accept that, no matter what you do, you’ll never get what you want. You’ll only end up hurt.”
In the end, everything came down to whether Draven liked someone or not.
Other people’s effort meant almost nothing to him.
And Herman was sure now.
Draven liked Ayla.
The way he and James teased him wasn’t random.
Draven’s favoritism toward Ayla was too obvious.
Ayla had no frame of reference, so she didn’t realize how special his behavior was. But those who grew up with Draven knew exactly what those differences meant
That was why they joked about it the first time they met her.
If they joked around like that with every random woman, Draven would’ve cut them off long ago.
Even now, Draven had never truly gotten mad at them for teasing. The few times he warned them to stop were only because he thought it might bother Ayla.
Realizing this, Herman paused. It felt like discovering a hidden detail.
Draven had slipped up. Herman couldn’t help being curious about how things between those two would develop.
Would they end up together?
When Melody finally calmed down, Herman softened his tone. “You’re not clueless. You understand what I’m saying. There are some people you’re just not mean to have. Face it. You’ve known Draven for so many years. If he liked you, he would’ve liked you already. It wouldn’t drag on until now.”
Melody’s heart was in such pain that she felt like she could barely breathe. She sounded like someone who knew she should accept reality, yet still couldn’t. “I just can’t accept it! Why doesn’t Draven like me?!”
Herman gave a small, helpless smile. “Don’t fall into this kind of obsession. Falling for someone never has a reason. Not liking someone doesn’t have a reason either
Melody wasn’t stupid. She understood everything Herman said. She also understood he wasn’t refusing to help. Her brother was protecting her from being hurt even more.

But unrequited love was happening to her. Herman could never understand that pain from the outside.
Accepting and letting go sounded simple. But doing it? impossible.
Melody stopped talking about giving up on Draven. Instead, she asked, “Herman, you still haven’t told me. Who is that woman?”
She could accept not being with Draven–barely. But only under one condition, if she couldn’t have him, then no one else could either.
It was her only comfort.
It would mean that Draven doesn’t love anyone.
And then Melody could accept it. If she couldn’t have him, at least no other woman could either. She might even hold on to a tiny bit of hope, right?
If Draven truly liked another woman, Melody would no just be upset; she would lose her mind with jealousy.
Herman glanced toward the elevator.
Melody had been obsessed with Draven for ten years. There was no way she could give up that easily.
That was why Herman would never mention how different Ayla was in Draven’s eyes. If Melody found out, she would go after Ayla out of pure jealousy. And even if he warned her, he couldn’t control Melody every minute of the day.
Draven would also be upset. But because Melody was his sister, he would hesitate. That hesitation would put him in a terrible position.
And Herman didn’t want his buddy to get stuck in that kind of conflict or let Ayla get hurt for no reason.
So Herman kept his voice calm. “She’s just a secretary. Someone unimportant.”
Melody frowned. “If she’s not important, then why does she get to ride in Draven’s car?”
“Blake is training her,” Herman said. “She goes with Draven often because of work. And Draven is a gentleman. If he offers to drive a lady, what’s wrong with that?”
Melody’s fingers tightened. She accepted his explanation on the surface, but her instincts screamed that something wasn’t right. If Herman wouldn’t tell her anything, she would look into it herself.
Seeing she had gone quiet, Herman changed the subject “So what are you doing here?”
“You don’t care about me at all,” Melody complained. “I’m here in Trensea to host my art exhibition!”
Herman gave a small laugh. “Then I’ll be there to support you.”
Melody continued, “I also want to visit Mr. Lonedrum.”
“Henry Lonedrum?” Herman asked, surprised.
Melody nodded.
Henry was a legend, one of the giants of the art world. Ierman had met him once at the House of Myur

charity gala. Henry was old, but he was steady, sharp, a full of character. And he was famously stubborn.
Herman raised a brow. “You’re sure you can even meet him?”
