Chapter 193 Stalker

Kaleb let out a cold laugh. Like I want to go to your place.”

Ayla said, I plan to handle it in my study.

Kaleb finally gave a stiff nod. Fine. You are the genius. You call the shots.

Ayla stayed silent.

Draven used the private elevator reserved for the CEO. He did not need to wait, so he reached the garage first and drove out before Ayla. He did not bring his driver. He parked alone at a distant corner by the road.

He saw Ayla pull away with a man sitting beside her.

The distance was wide, so Draven did not see the man’s face. He only saw that the man looked young and handsome.

Draven pressed his lips together and followed them without a sound.

Then he saw Ayla pull into the neighborhood with the man in her car.

Draven’s hands clenched tighter around the steering wheel.

The Westhaven penthouse had been left to Ayla by her uncle, and Kaleb had never stepped foot inside it before.

To build a better bond between them, Ayla brought him over. Kaleb didn’t like the idea, but at least he cared about the Zane situation.

After they parked, Ayla got out first. Her folders were on the back seat, so she opened the door and pulled them out.

Kaleb stood next to her, eyeing the bag with clear judgment. Without asking, he grabbed her work tote and lifted it. This thing weighs a ton! What’s even in here?

Ayla thought it was only right for her brother to carry her bag. She didn’t bother thanking him.

She started walking ahead while Kaleb followed behind her.

Research papers for my thesis.

Kaleb was never as smart as Ayla, but he never cared. Hed always been better at sports. Even so, she used to beat him up all the time when they were kids.

Now, walking behind her, Kaleb realized the sister who used to scare him had become much smaller than he remembered.

Ayla wasn’t short, but Kaleb was tall. Her fivefooteight height barely reached his chin. Kaleb thought about it for a second. One good punch could probably send his sister flying. The thought made him grin in quiet satisfaction. He made sure Ayla didn’t notice.

Even though she was shorter, Kaleb had to admit that lately, after seeing her more often, Ayla still looked powerful. She felt like someone he could rely on.

Whenever things went wrong, her calm strength always steadied him.

Ayla had grit. She didn’t go down easily.

The thought made Kaleb proud. With a sister like her, Enmett should be jealous of him.

Ayla opened the resident system and said, Put your fingerprint in.

Kaleb frowned. Why?

So you can come to me anytime you need to.

Kaleb scoffed. Like I care. I’ve got better things to do.

Ayla smacked his arm. Kaleb looked irritated but still did what she said and scanned his fingerprint.

They got in the elevator, went up, and stepped out onto her floor.

Ayla then set up the door lock for him. The passcode was her birthday, something Kaleb already knew.

Of course he remembered. But two months ago, he hadn’t celebrated it with her.

After she opened the door and walked in, the smell of food filled the air.

Kaleb froze. His face hardened. He stared at Ayla. You’ve got someone here? You should’ve told me!

Ayla said, It’s my housekeeper, Meryll.”

Right after she said that, Meryll walked out with a bright smile. Welcome home, Ms. Keaton.

She saw Kaleb, but she didn’t wait for an introduction. She didn’t need one. The resemblance between them said everything. You must be her brother. You’re dashing.

He looked a bit too aloof, but he was sharp and strikingmore handsome than any guy on TV, with a stronger, cooler edge.

Ayla said, This is Kaleb.

Kaleb’s face stayed blank. He didn’t nod or say a word.

Meryll thought he had quite the attitude. Good thing I looked extra tonight. There’s plenty to eat, but I’ll throw together one more dish!

Thanks,Ayla replied.

Once Meryll left, Kaleb frowned in surprise. When did you hire her?

Just a few days ago.”

Ayla was buried in work and couldn’t manage everything at home. She needed someone reliable to keep her life in order. Most men had wives to handle that for them, but Ayla didn’t have that kind of husband, so she hired help.

Kaleb stepped into the living room and glanced at the kitchen, where Meryll was still busy moving around. You sure she’s trustworthy?

Absolutely.”

Because the woman worked inside her home, Ayla had been extremely careful about hiring her. Coincidentally, she had once added a sales associate on social media after buying a dress. The woman’s name was Samantha Zimmerman, and she used to message Ayla daily, telling her how amazing she looked to boost her confidence.

Ayla didn’t need that kind of validation anymore. She was strong enough on her own now. But Samantha had stayed on her contact list, and one day, Ayla saw a post about her mother’s home service business. That was how she found Meryll and signed a contract with her.

Ayla lived alone. The place didn’t need constant cleaning. Meryll only cooked dinner and did a deep clean once a week. She didn’t live in, so she could still work for other clients.
