He forced himself to calm down. Of course, his version of calm was still seething with anger. “I already told you my sister isn’t interested in you. If you think you’re going to be my brother–in–law, you’re dreaming!”

Draven replied, “I’ll make her interested in me.”

Kaleb shot back, “She likes young hotties!”

Draven said evenly, “Then I’ll work hard to make her like my type instead.”

Kaleb’s emotions were starting to spiral out of control again. “So you’re dead set on going after my sister, is that it?”

Draven answered simply. “Yes.”

Kaleb didn’t know what else to say. Damn it! He’d run into some delusional guy who wouldn’t take no for an answer, and he couldn’t even beat him up. What was he supposed to do

Seeing that Kaleb had finally shut up. Draven asked. “Calmed down now?”

Kaleb snapped, “Like hell I’m calm.”

Draven let out a soft laugh. “Why is your sister’s personality so different from yours?”

He couldn’t help but picture Ayla being fierce and aggressive, but the image wouldn’t form.

Ayla was cool and sharp, her edges on full display. When faced with any situation, she wouldn’t fall apart. She’d handle it calmly. She didn’t need anyone. Just like after Kaleb got into trouble, she didn’t ask anyone for help.

A woman who didn’t need to rely on others would never give anyone the time of day unless she actively

liked them.

Yet Ayla had loved Troy. Troy held an important place in her heart. What made Troy so special?

Every time this thought came up, Draven forcibly pushed it down. If he dwelled on it too much, he’d lose control of himself and become dangerous.

Kaleb retorted, “Of course not. You’re a smooth–talking player. If my sister had any feelings for you, could you really hold back from confessing?”

“Who Ayla likes is her freedom. Even if you’re her brother, you have no right to interfere.”

Kaleb’s brow furrowed. “Are you seriously lecturing me about warning you not to make moves on my sister? Who the hell do you think you are?”

Draven didn’t care. He continued persuasively, “If your sister wants to date someone, would you rather she randomly pick some young hottie, or choose me, a man handsome enough to have women lining up for him?”

Kaleb retorted, “You’re no prize yourself!”

“That’s not for you to decide. It depends on your sister.”

Draven pressed on, “I want to be your brother–in–law, so naturally I see you as my little brother. I’m informing you in advance to avoid misunderstandings that would create a rift between us later.”

What pissed Kaleb off most was Draven’s confident attitude, as if he really would become his brother–in–law in the future. “You’ve got some nerve!”

Draven replied, “Just being realistic. Kaleb, I’m being completely honest with you. You can test me anytime, and evaluate whether I’m qualified to be your brother–in–law. If I do anything wrong, if my character doesn’t measure up, you can tell your sister. If she doesnt like me, I’ll back off immediately. Compared to your sister randomly finding some guy you don’t know, ‘ll let you know me thoroughly. This is my sincerity and my promise.”

Kaleb remained silent.

Draven spoke with such conviction, every word clear and firm. His deep, compelling voice carried the kind of power that made people believe him, like a news anchor delivering the truth. In other words, it made you believe that Draven’s promises were genuine, that he would actually follow through.
