But Howard noticed it.

He recognized Ayla right away. A man was driving her car. Howard didn’t see his face clearly, but he guessed it must be Ayla’s boyfriend.
Ayla fit Howard’s type. He liked calm, quiet girls. But there were many girls like that. Howard wasn’t the kind of guy who would get ideas every
time he saw someone he liked. Otherwise, he’d be a jerk.
Besides, he and Ayla were practically strangers. They had spoken only twice. So he didn’t think much of it. Even after seeing her, he didn’t react.
On the other hand, Skyla–who looked almost exactly like the girl he used to secretly like–felt much closer to him. And she also had the skills he needed. So when Troy said he had to leave early, Howard offered to drive Skyla home.
Troy didn’t mind.
They had a driver, but after the driver stepped aside, Troy got into his own sports car and slammed the gas.
He shot forward and sped after Ayla.
Troy recognized her beat–up SUV right away. It was old, but because it was an off–road car, it stood out. So he didn’t lose sight of it in the beginning.
But the roads were crowded at this hour. Troy passed car after car, but once he turned onto the main road, the traffic became so heavy that he had to stop.
The moment he stopped, he suddenly realized just how frantic he had been.
He had been acting normal until then–working as usual, meeting friends, nothing strange. But the moment he stepped out of the elevator and saw a blurry, familiar shape ahead of him, his heart instantly told him it was Ayla.
And when he saw her, something inside him snapped. He couldn’t control himself. His mind flashed with memories of her cold face in the courthouse during the divorce, and her sharp voice when she mocked him over the phone,
Troy always thought he didn’t care about Ayla anymore. But the second he saw her again, he fell apart all over again.
He truly had no idea what was wrong with him.

With tight lips and a white–knuckled grip on the wheel, he kept pushing forward, trying to squeeze into any open space. He had to catch up to Ayla.
He didn’t even know what he planned to do after he caught her. He just needed to catch her. He refused to let her leave with Draven.
Drivers around him quietly moved aside because his car was a luxury model.
Troy found a gap and pulled forward. He scanned the road until he spotted Ayla’s SUV again. It was a bit far, so he switched lanes. But the light turned red, and he had no way to get closer.
As soon as he stopped, he looked toward Ayla’s car–wanting to know what she and Draven were doing.
And that was when he saw it. Ayla leaned over and kissed Draven’s cheek.
Troy froze. He couldn’t believe his eyes. His emotions were beyond words–shock, anger, confusion, and something even deeper, something he couldn’t name.
Wasn’t Ayla crazy about me?
Didn’t she love me so much that she tried every way she could to marry me? Didn’t she want to give me everything she had?
We had barely been divorced. What the hell is she doing?
How could Ayla kiss the man I hated most?
Troy clenched his teeth so hard he tasted blood. His lips felt like they might tear open. He didn’t care. Every cell in his body shook. The rage in his chest felt like it would swallow him whole.
He felt that sharp, crushing pain in his heart again. It was so strong he could barely take it.
If the driver had been there, he would have been terrified. Troy’s face looked like it was carved from ice, and his eyes were deadly.
When the light turned green, Draven stepped on the gas. He answered a question Ayla had asked, then his gaze drifted to the rearview mirror. A faint flash of cold light passed through his eyes before he quietly looked away.
Draven focused on the road. He turned several times, looping around different streets. Once he was confident he had shaken Troy off, he pulled over.
Ayla blinked. “Why are we stopping?”
There was a flower shop on the sidewalk.

Draven said, “I’m buying flowers. Wait for me in the car.”
After that, he stepped out.
He pointed at a few bouquets inside the shop. The clerk froze for a second–probably stunned by how good–looking he was–then quickly rushed to wrap the bouquet.
Ayla suddenly felt nervous. She held her seatbelt tight. Maybe it was because of the kiss earlier, but the air felt strangely warm. She wondered if the flowers were for her.
But then she pushed the thought away. Back on Shawn’s cruise, Draven had fallen on top of her when he was drugged. That had been way more intimate. The quick cheek kiss earlier had lasted less than a second–it barely counted.
And Draven had warned her when they first agreed to work together that there might be unnecessary physical contact. Since she accepted it, she wasn’t going to read too much into something so small.
Still… Draven buying flowers?
She had known him for a long time and had never seen him buy flowers before. That was why she even wondered about it.
But Ayla stayed calm. She mentally prepared herself for all possibilities.
Then, just as she finished thinking, Draven walked out of the shop holding a bouquet.
