Troy couldn’t accept this gap between expectation and reality. He pressed his hands on the counter of the shop, trying to hold back his frustration. “Why didn’t you tell Grandpa yourself about the divorce? If you really wanted to cut ties with me, shouldn’t you have announced it to the world already?”
Ayla gave a cold laugh. “You talk like everyone even knew we were married.”
Troy choked on that.
“I only cared about Martin in your family,” she continued, “but I didn’t want to see him disappointed, and I didn’t want to explain the reasons for our divorce. That would have been torture and a waste of energy for me.”
She just wanted to move on with her life after the divorce without getting stuck in all the leftover mess.
“Troy, we’re divorced. You have responsibility here. It’s your job to deal with your family. Marriage isn’t just my problem, so don’t think you can shirk your duties.”
Troy’s breaths came heavy and uneven.
“Before, you treated marriage like a joke. When your wife was mistreated, you didn’t act like a man and protect me. I was too naive back then to argue or fight with you, because nothing would come of it–and you’d just get angrier. So I never expected you to do anything for me. But now it is different. I won’t step in for things that are yours to handle.”
Hearing this, Troy’s anger flared. He probably shouldn’t accept it.
But Ayla didn’t care about his feelings anymore.
Whether he was happy or angry wasn’t her concern.
These words weren’t just to be said–they had to be clear and direct.
“When a couple divorces, we’re no longer family. I’ve handled my side–my friends and family. Your family is your responsibility. Don’t drag me into it. I won’t interfere anymore.”
Martin had always been kind to Ayla, so she was willing to attend his birthday party. But at the end of the day, he was Troy’s grandfather. After the divorce, it wasn’t her problem anymore.
Ayla expected Troy to explode, but he didn’t.
He just gave her a cold glance and scanned the shop, seemingly observing the surroundings for the first time. After a brief look, he turned back to her. “You like cups?”

Ayla didn’t answer. She wanted to see what he was planning.
He asked again, “Why didn’t I know you collected cups before?”
Ayla frowned. “Are you asking about my preferences?”
Troy nodded seriously. “Yes.”
Her chest tightened as if something heavy hit it. A bitter, ironic feeling rose inside her.
She had once loved talking about these things with Troy–sharing interests, learning about each other, noticing the little quirks. But now, talking about this with him felt pointless, almost silly.
“It’s none of your business,” she said coldly.
Troy stared at her. “Are you buying this for yourself or someone else?”
Ayla met his gaze. “So what? Does it matter if it’s for me or someone else?”
Troy tried to stay calm, but her refusal made his blood boil. He didn’t want to argue, but the words slipped out, sharp and demanding. “Tell me now!”
“I have no obligation to tell you,” she replied firmly.
Without warning, Troy snatched the shopping bag from her hands.
Ayla’s eyes widened. “Give it back!”
She lunged for the bag, but Troy grabbed one of her hands, his stare icy like cold steel. “Who is it for? Tell me!”
‘Ayla slapped him hard across the face.
Troy jerked his head back, stunned. The sting registered, and he slowly turned toward her.
Her cheeks were flushed with anger. Her eyes blazed with fury, with just a hint of urgency. She said, cold as ice, “Troy, I don’t want to fight with you. That’s mine. Give it back!”
Troy snapped fully awake. His face was cold. His voice is colder. Every glance, every tone radiated danger. Slowly, he said, “Seeing you this worked up, it’s for Draven, isn’t it?”
Ayla’s eyes chilled even more. “None of your business!”
Troy lost control. He didn’t speak another word. He grabbed Ayla and walked toward the door.
The store clerk froze. They wanted to stop him, but Troy’s aura was terrifying. The clerk

couldn’t move under his gaze, stiff as a statue, feeling like they were facing some wild beast.
Troy ignored Ayla’s struggles. He threw her into the car, tossed the gift bag aside, and pulled out a belt to tie her hands together.
Once done, he climbed into the driver’s seat.
Ayla struggled for a moment but quickly realized it was useless. She calmed down and stared at Troy, her expression icy and indifferent.
