Chapter 237 What Are You Looking At?
Draven’s eyes scanned her face. “Ayla, I’ll give you one last chance to say no.”
There was no turning back now.
His real plan was never just to get her to act like his girlfriend.

So he still let her choose, even though it felt unfair. He lied, and she didn’t know what he was thinking.
Ayla understood that if she agreed now, quitting later would destroy her. She couldn’t even deal with Troy. If Draven decided to crush her as well, she wouldn’t make it.
So that “teamwork” was actually a two–year deal she couldn’t walk away from.
For both her and Draven, a promise carried weight. It wasn’t a game.
Adults had to stand by what they chose.
Ayla didn’t hesitate. “Mr. Storm, I’ve decided. For the next two years, I’ll act as your girlfriend. I won’t date anyone else or get close to other men.”

Draven didn’t answer. He leaned back, let out a long breath, and his fingers twitched. His hands were sweaty.
He’d been tense all along.
Even when killers chased him overseas, he hadn’t felt that nervous.
His heart was racing. He couldn’t control his breathing, and his body stopped obeying him. Instinct took control. It felt strange and dangerous, but it was something he’d never forget.
After Ayla made the promise, her heart skipped as well. For a few seconds, she couldn’t think. She had just tied herself to Draven for two years with something she couldn’t undo. It was just words, but it felt stronger than a marriage certificate.
At least that was how it felt to her.
She wondered if Draven felt anything like that.
She peeked at him. He sat relaxed against the seat.
Ayla noticed again how thin his shirt was and how messy his hair looked. He’d already looked like that before fighting Troy, but it didn’t change his cool, CEO look.
In the small car, she didn’t even hide that she was staring. Just then, Draven turned around.
Getting caught staring was embarrassing.
Usually, Ayla didn’t care much. He was just the boss, and she was just the secretary. But now that she had to pretend to be his girlfriend, everything felt different.
Before, when Draven looked at her, she didn’t think too deeply. Now, his eyes felt like they carried meaning.

And overthinking led to dumb fantasies.
Stop it!
Ayla forced her thoughts to chill.
Draven wouldn’t drop it. “What are you staring at?”
“Uh, why are you only wearing a shirt?” Ayla asked bluntly.

He looked down. When he heard from the M.L staff that Troy had dragged Ayla off, his first thought was hating himself for asking her for a gift. His next move was to run out with his phone and keys.
Only now did he realize he’d run out wearing just a shirt.
If Ayla didn’t bring it up, he wouldn’t have noticed.
“Uh, I was just asking.”
He said, “I was rushing.”
Ayla didn’t know what to say.
Was he scared she’d get hurt?
Draven watched her face go from shocked to confused to awkward. He thought it was funny.
There was another reason he wanted her to act as his girlfriend. Before, Ayla had zero romantic feelings for him, so anything he did, she’d explain away as a boss protecting his employee. She thought he was just a “good” guy.
Now, things had changed.
If he were kind again, Ayla wouldn’t think it was simple anymore.
She’d start noticing.
Ayla did feel awkward.
She remembered Draven putting medicine on her wrist. She hadn’t cared earlier, but now it seemed too
close.
A powerful CEO personally putting ointment on a secretary? It sounded absurd!
But Ayla chickened out and didn’t ask further. Instead, she’switched back to business. “Mr. Storm, when are we announcing it?”
The thought of everyone knowing she was his “girlfriend” made her nervous.
Draven replied, “After Grandpa’s birthday banquet.”
“So I didn’t have to pretend before that?”
“The moment you agreed, you became my girlfriend,” Draven replied. “You’ll cooperate at all times.”

“Okay.”
“If no one asks, we don’t bring it up. If they ask, we tell them.”
Ayla suddenly remembered something important. “So, except for you and me, no one can know it’s fake?”
Draven paused. “That’s what you’re worried about?”
