“Ms. Alvarado, please don’t take what I said to heart. It’s just that I don’t have good manners. When someone makes me mad, I like to throw my cup at them. I really can’t hold back. I’m nothing like you, Ms. Alvarado. You’re so gentle and poised. You even manage to put up with a disobedient brother. Honestly, I have to say, I admire you, Ms. Alvarado.”

Lisa had never felt this uncomfortable in her entire life. Her palms were actually starting to sweat.

Ayla suddenly wanted to laugh. Halle was really good at using sarcasm to cut people down. She could leave someone totally embarrassed, and that person would still have to smile and apologize to her.

Rolf couldn’t take any more. He slammed his hand on the table, the sound echoing through the private room. His face turned stormy. “Halle, who do you think you are, mocking my sister?”

Lisa got angry. “Rolf, what’s your problem?”

Rolf turned around, his expression dark. “Lisa, she’s insulting me.”

“She should. You really are out of line.”

Halle quickly held her back. “Ms. Alvarado, don’t get upset. Your brother actually has some redeeming qualities. At least he can pick up on what I really mean. If he couldn’t, wouldn’t you be even more annoyed?”

Lisa really couldn’t handle Halle’s sharp tongue. She wished Halle would just stop talking, but everything Halle said hit home. “Ms. Kinsman, you don’t have to try to comfort me”

Rolf was on the verge of exploding. “Fine, since you’re getting along so well, you two can keep chatting. I’m leaving.”

Lisa’s face turned pale.

But Rolf ignored how Lisa felt. He just turned and walked out with a/cold look.

Ayla glanced back at Lisa. As an older sister herself, she really understood how Lisa must feel right now. She was definitely furious.

Kaleb was different. Even if he didn’t agree, he would never embarrass her in public. What Rolf did showed he didn’t care that much about Lisa. Not being able to tell right from wrong was a separate issue.

As soon as Rolf pulled open the door, he ran into Conrad. His face changed.

Conrad saw Rolf’s expression and immediately figured out he was about to leave.

Conrad’s voice was stern. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“Dad…”

“Shut up and get back in there.”

Rolf’s eyebrows drew together, clearly unwilling. Even though he could defy Lisa, he didn’t dare talk back to

his dad.

Lisa didn’t even look at him now.

Conrad didn’t come in. He turned and gestured for someone to enter.

“Mr. Storm, Mr. Porter, this way please.” Conrad was extremely polite and then introduced them to everyone in the room. Everyone knew Draven already, but the man with him was a high–level official from the securities commission, Dustin Porter.

Everyone stood up.

Ayla had met Dustin before for work.

The Storm Group’s branch was about to get its overseas IPO approval, so they had to deal with the securities commission.

Draven had some business to attend to tonight, so he brought Dustin along.,

Ayla didn’t think much of it, but Conrad was sweating bullets.

Draven showing up was already a big deal. Having someone of Dustin’s rank show up wasn’t something that just happened every day.

This was way more than anyone expected.

Halle knew Draven was helping, but she hadn’t expected him to show up himself.

He could have just called and had Conrad apologize. Being here in person took it to another level.

Draven’s reputation carried a lot of weight. Not just anyone could get him to come out.

He was really going out of his way for Ayla.

She glanced at Ayla.

Ayla kept a calm expression, like nothing was out of the ordinary.

Halle was not so calm. She didn’t have the standing to deal with someone of Dustin’s caliber. Meeting him. for the first time, she couldn’t act as relaxed as Ayla.

Lisa was just as shocked.

She thought her father had just stepped out to take Draven’s call, but he’d actually brought him inside.

And the man with Draven, Dustin, was no small fry.

Lisa tried to hide how nervous she was and reached out to shake hands, but Draven didn’t even acknowledge her. Instead, he went straight to Ayla and sat next to her. Before he sat, Draven looked at Ayla, and she looked right back.

Lisa felt awkward, but at least Dustin greeted her.

Dustin’s suit was immaculate, and he carried himself like a man of real authority. He was probably in his early forties, but he had a commanding presence that went far beyond his age.

Everyone respected him, but Draven acted totally at ease, not treating Dustin as a big deal, which only made it clearer that Draven himself had a lot of pull.

Ayla had learned a bit about the situation during a previous business dinner. Dustin had some family ties to the Storms.

Rolf was stunned.

Now it all made sense to him.

Rolf always knew his dad was trying to get close to Draven because the Alvarados didn’t have any connections in Trensea, so they needed to rely on him to build their own network. If Draven called, his dad would treat it very seriously.

Rolf had thought Halle’s connection to the Storm Group wasn’t much, just a little luck by association. He never dreamed Draven would come here himself.
