The moment Ayla opened the door, she saw Skyla.
Ayla didn’t hide the anger on her face.
Skyla’s gaze swept past Ayla and landed on Juliet.
Juliet signaled her with her eyes not to talk to Ayla.
So Skyla stepped aside.
Ayla didn’t want Skyla to see Lillian. She closed the door.
Finished
Ayla was about to leave when Skyla said, “In a couple of days, Agron University’s School of Computer Science is holding an alumni reunion. Only honorary alumni get invitations. I can recommend you.”
Ayla stopped. She looked at her without expression.
Skyla had never thought much of Ayla. But today, she was in a good mood and felt like showing a little charity. “You and Troy are divorced now. You’re just a secretary. Your future won’t be easy. We know each other, and we’re alumni. If there’s a chance, I can give you a hand.”
Ayla studied Skyla.
Skyla looked proud. There was nothing but condescension in her eyes.
As if Ayla’s life was miserable and she needed pity.
Ayla found it amusing. Once she divorced, everyone suddenly thought her life would only go downhill.
“Opportunities like this aren’t common. Don’t be stubborn and turn it down just to save face. The alumni circle has plenty of resources. Many of your older classmates run their own tech companies. Say a few nice words, and maybe they’ll refer you internally for a role in At least you won’t have to keep pouring coffee and tea for people as a secretary.”
your field.
By this point, Skyla could no longer hide the disdain deep in her bones. Her tone stayed calm. “After all, haven’t you had enough being a live–in nanny for three years?”
At that, Ayla curled her lips faintly.
Her reaction startled Skyla and made her dislike Ayla even more. As always, she was good at putting on an act.

Chapter 284 The Confrontation
Finished
Ayla caught the disgust in her eyes and sneered. “You think I’d want to attend a second–rate alumni party like that?”
Skyla froze for a long moment before processing what Ayla had said.
She let out a laugh and stared at her in disbelief.
She had truly never seen someone this shameless.
Skyla even took a few seconds to choose her words. “Are you sure? Are you really going to rely
on Kaleb from now on? The crisis at his company was only resolved because Draven stepped in. What about later? Kaleb doesn’t exactly look reliable…”
“My brother is far more reliable than yours.”
Thinking of that idiot, Zane, Skyla’s face turned cold. “Ayla, I’m helping you. Don’t be ungrateful. Once you leave Troy, you’re bound to fall on your face…”
Ayla said, “You know exactly why you’re helping me–whether it’s out of kindness, or you just want to watch me make a fool of myself. Don’t dress it up with noble words. It makes me sick.” It was just like when Zane claimed he wanted to acquire Kaleb’s company to help, when he really wanted to crush her underfoot.
Skyla didn’t flinch at all after being called out.
She still looked at Ayla like a joke.
Ayla said, “There’s nothing more to say between us. But my three–year marriage to Troy proves one thing. He doesn’t make my life better. After I divorced him, my good days are just starting.”
Then she added, “I wish you two a happy ending.”
With that, Ayla turned and left.
As for Troy, her heart had gone still long ago.
Troy was just an old, yellowed page she had already turned. Even looking back at it felt disgusting.
Skyla watched Ayla walk away.
Ayla was a little taller than her, her back straight and upright. She was the definition of aloof and proud.
Ayla showed none of the pitiful look of a divorced woman. There was no trace of weariness in her eyes. If anything, the anger on her face made her look sharp and untouchable.

Chapter 284 The Confrontation
Still, Skyla felt so speechless about Ayla that she almost wanted to laugh.
With Ayla’s background, she isn’t even qualified to be my assistant. I was willing to give her a chance, and she actually rejected it so arrogantly?
What a waste of my kindness. Ayla is too full of herself.
I warned Max before not to associate with people of too low a level. Since Max could get along with Ayla, I thought maybe Ayla had some redeeming qualities.
But it turns out, Ayla is painfully ordinary and blindly confident.
Skyla knew how Ayla felt about Troy. She was a woman too. If she had truly loved him that deeply, she couldn’t have gotten over it in just a month or two.
Yet between Ayla’s words and tone, it sounded like she had really moved on.
What a joke. Anyone with eyes can see that Troy is the best man Ayla can ever hope to meet. If she hadn’t wanted to hold on to the title of Mrs. Winston, how could she have endured three years?
She’s just pretending.
She doesn’t want to show weakness in front of me. Only she knows how bitter it really feels.
Skyla used to look down on Ayla. Now she felt deep disgust and resentment.
When it came to people she disliked, Skyla didn’t waste much time.
Skyla figured that if she married Troy in the future, she would definitely send Ayla an invitation. She might as well take Ayla’s words as a blessing.
Skyla sneered and turned toward the door.
She had heard every word of Ayla’s conversation with Juliet.
