Ayla couldn’t help laughing.
Kaleb glared at her. “What are you laughing at?”

“I’m laughing at how awkward you are,” Ayla said. “Mr. Storm peeled some shrimp for you. What’s the big deal?”
Kaleb’s ears turned red, but his face went ice–cold. “I didn’t ask him to peel it! He likes sticking his nose in. What does that have to do with me?”
“Then don’t eat them.”
Kaleb froze.
He suddenly regretted it. I never should’ve eaten them. Why did I get hot–headed and eat them in the first place?
“Say thank you to Mr. Storm,” Ayla said. She still hoped Kaleb and Draven could get along better.
Kaleb turned his head to the side. “Not happening…”
“Then return the favor. You peel a lobster for Mr. Storm.”
Kaleb growled, “What…”
Draven said calmly. “No need for all that. Just call me ‘Bro.””
Kaleb’s face went completely stiff. He even thought he’d misheard. He stared at Draven coldly. “Not happening!”
Draven actually wants me to call him “Bro“? How shameless can he be? “Why are you so obsessed with being my brother? Don’t you have siblings of your own?”
Ayla paused, taken aback.
Draven glanced at her briefly, then looked back at Kaleb and replied evenly, “I do.”
“Figures. No wonder you’ve got this habit of wanting to be everyone’s brother.”
But Draven said, “You’re overthinking it. They’ve never called me ‘Bro.”
Kaleb didn’t know the backstory. “What do you mean?”

Draven’s tone was indifferent, like it didn’t matter. “We never got along growing up.” Kaleb hated Troy enough already. There was no need to add fuel to the fire. Draven had no intention of telling him the details. At least not now.
Kaleb sneered, “Then you must’ve been a terrible brother!”
Draven paused for two seconds. “Maybe.”
Ayla couldn’t hear any emotion in his voice. But this was the first time he’d ever mentioned Troy and Bria.
Ayla roughly knew why they didn’t get along.
She didn’t know the details.
And she’d never asked.
It was because Troy kept pestering her after the divorce that Ayla ended up cooperating with Draven. Naturally, Troy came up a lot between them.
But at the same time, Troy was also a taboo topic.
Both of them had spent time with Troy. They had shared history and memories. And they both instinctively avoided talking about those details.
They both knew that the moment those things were brought up, neither of them would be happy.
So they never talked about it.
“Since you don’t know how to be a brother, don’t expect me to call you one,” Kaleb said. He wasn’t about to let Draven take advantage of him.
Ayla stopped Kaleb before he could keep running his mouth. She smacked the back of his head. “You’re so sharp–tongued! Only Mr. Storm puts up with you. With that personality, who the hell would tolerate you out there?”
Kaleb wanted to say more, but Ayla didn’t give him the chance. “Eat properly. Stop talking. You’re like a little kid. Why do you have so much to say? No talking at the table.”
Kaleb fell silent.
Kaleb’s meal was both enjoyable and miserable. Enjoyable because he got to eat with his sister. Miserable because there was an eyesore sitting there. Not only could he not kick him out, but he also had to watch Draven constantly being attentive to his sister.
After the meal, Kaleb was full of pent–up anger. He planned to stay at Ayla’s place and wait until

Draven left before going himself.

Then he got a call from the company. Something urgent came up, and he had to go deal with
Kaleb wanted to dump it on Emmett, but it was something that needed his decision. He had to go in person.
That was startup life–endless problems every single day.
Kaleb hung up, unwilling. “Ayla, something came up at work. I’ve got to go.”
Ayla didn’t hesitate. “Then go take care of it.”
Kaleb frowned immediately. “That’s it? Aren’t you gonna to ask me to stay? You trying to kick me out?”
Ayla was so done with him. “Did you lose your mind today? You have work. Why would I stop you? It’s not like you usually want to hang out with me anyway.”
Kaleb had no comeback.
Annoyed, he turned and shot Draven a fierce glare.
Draven noticed it. “Go take care of your work.”
Kaleb froze, then got even angrier. That look was supposed to kill him, and Draven responded like he was politely saying goodbye.
Kaleb couldn’t stay another second. He had to leave.
Before going, though, he pulled Ayla aside. “Outside of work, stay away from Draven. I think he’s really scheming.”
Ayla shoved him. “You’re turning into a nagging mom. Go handle your own business and stop worrying about me.”
Kaleb left with a belly full of anger. The elevator walls glowed orange and shiny, like a mirror.
Kaleb glanced at his reflection and saw a face that looked calm and dangerous all at once. The cool eyes he’d inherited from his mother, softened only slightly by deep–set brows, which gave him an air of effortless, chilling confidence.
He didn’t talk much outside. His whole presence warned people not to mess with him. Even dogs would keep their distance.
At the company, Kaleb was the kind of person who steadied everyone.

So he really didn’t understand it. Why was it that the moment he ran into Ayla and Draven, he instantly got shoved into the role of the little brother?
